Wrap help! HUGE knot bugging me...

Hi all...I have this wrap: http://www.pumpstation.com/pumpstati...C&dept_id=3481

I love wearing my baby in a wrap but I think *this* wrap has issues (for me!). It's a ton of material, which I know they all are, but the knot is enormous and driving me nuts! It's a (very) stretchy wrap...I have no idea how long it is...LONG. This bulky knot issue totally deters me from using it at all.
I have peanut shell pouch sling that I've been using but it's no good for a long duration. I'm traveling by plane soon and want to wear the baby in the airports etc.

This is the only wrap I've seen/used: Are all wraps like this?

Do you experts have any advice for me?

TIA!

I've never used this brand before, but there is usually a knot in wraps and it's not usually very tiny. Do you have a picture of yours?

You can decrease the size of the knot by tying a different type of knot (the flatter one that you would use for karate belts for example) but that would take more hand dexterity, especially if the knot is in the back and you cant see it. There will always be some sort of knot/bump...I try to position it (when the knot is behind me) so its in the small of my back so if I have to lean back on something the arch in my back kind of protects it. Unless I am sitting down leaning back I dont notice the knot at all - what about it is bothering you?

I'm also not familiar with this wrap, but with my Moby wrap the knot in the small of my back bothered me, and it was recommended to me that I tie the knot on the side. It was a little trickier, as I had a longer piece and a shorted piece to tie together, but then I would just tuck the longer piece inside the wrap.

Looks like you have a stretchy wrap. Great for newborns and light weight babies.

I started wrapping with a similar style wrap, a Moby, and quickly moved on to a woven wrap. There are many kinds to choose from. Some make large knots, some make nice small knots. They also come in different lengths, so you can find one that is just long enough for your favorite carry and not have any extra fabric to deal with. I find that the stretchy wraps seem like more fabric when you are working with it since it is, well, stretchy.

If you are looking for something lightweight, Vatanai makes great wraps with smaller knots. If you are looking for something cushy for your shoulders there are many Didymos that just can't be beat. I personally am in love with their silk indio. It's light yet snuggly and has a slight stretchy feel (but it's not a stretchy wrap) making it easy to get a comfy carry.

I'm sure that others have mentioned that a great source for all things baby wearing is thebabywearer.com. There are some real experts over there that can help you find just the right wrap.

Thanks for the replies!
This wrap is extremely long (don't know the measurement), wide and VERY stretchy. I was thinking of trying a Moby wrap because I think it has 'tapered tails' which would make for less fabric in the knot, right? I had been tying it on the side just to keep the knot/material out of my way...otherwise it would need to be in front b/c of the amt of material. (I'm about 5'2", size 8ish FYI)
I just wonder if the Moby is as stretchy as the one I have... I wouldn't want that. I don't know if I'm skilled enough to use a woven (that's the NONstretch type, I think!)... I'm a rookie..Just use the front cross carry

The moby is fine (great even) for littler babies - but you will find as your dd gets heavier that it will pull your centre of balance forward and strain your shoulders. Woven wraps (yes those are the nonstretch type) are really simple to use - and just take a little practice like this one probably did when you first got it - and they go up so high in weight that you would never need another carrier! I still wear my 17 month old in hers nearly every day.

If you want something thats kind of in between a stretchy wrap and a woven - you could try Bali Baby Breeze - they are a gauzier type wrap, with a tiny bit of stretch (unles you get the bali baby stretch...lol)....they will be cooler as well so if you live in a colder climate you might want to wait for spring/summer - but it might be a good gateway wrap for you if you are unsure of the woven.
