How to value services?

I have the opportunity to work 1-2 days per week in the afternoons as a bookkeeper for a small real estate company in the Nashville area. Perhaps 8 hrs/week.

Ideally, I would like to make about $500 take-home a month, but realize this may not be realistic working so few hours per week.

How would I begin to value my services in the first place? I have extensive budgeting experience for library systems up to $1.2 million, and am very qualified -- and perhaps overqualified -- for the position.

I'd start with the going rate for bookkeepers in the area. Unfortunately, unless you have a special skill that is required for this particular job, being overqualified probably won't lead to extra money/value (unless of course they really want to hire you personally). You might be able to charge a little extra but not much since they could reasonably go out and hire someone qualified for less.

Thanks, dogmom327. I'll start doing some research on local hourly wages.
