I was wondering if your DD started her period at age 12 or younger, did she eat milk or dairy?

My girls eat a little of both and I'm wondering if there is any anecdotal correlation.

Poll coming up...

isn't starting at 12 normal? I thought early was 9 or 10. And yes, started at 12, and yes to eating dairy.

I wanted to add that my dd did drink dairy but that is one thing I always buy organic even if I can't afford it. I was 12 when I started and ate very little meat as a child.

I ate dairy and non-organic meat (this was the 70s) and started at 13.

The only thing that differentiated me from everyone else is that we were almost never allowed candy, soda or other processed junk food.

We only eat organic/free range animal products unless we go out to eat. Even then we at least try. Normal age for menarche for the past 100 or so years has been betwee ages 10 and 16. I do believe that we as a society have become so obsessed with keep our kids kids that we forget that sometimes you can't fight nature. DD's mom started puberty early and so did DD. There is a documented genetic link, if mom starts her period early her dd is more likely to start early.

i started mine at 11 and i ate organic dairy and no meat but my mom started hers at like 13 and she ate everything processed and non organic

My older DD got hers at age 13.5 and my younger DD (almost 13) hasn't gotten hers yet. I got my period at 12.5 or 13.5- I can remember the circumstances surrounding the event, but I'm not sure if I was in 7th or 8th grade at the time.

Both girls have had large amounts of conventional dairy products since age 1 or so, though we don't eat red meat very often due to cost. I do make an effort to avoid BGH treated milk, but I was less cautious about this when they were little and we were getting WIC milk and cheese.

I grew up eating conventional dairy and meat products, so I'm not sure if I was exposed to any hormones via milk when I was a child. I don't know if my childhood diet was any more or less healthy than my children's diets, but both daughters seem to be following the same puberty pattern that I had.

I answered for myself because I don't have a daughter yet...but I ate meat, dairy, and fish as a child...and I started at age 10. My mother was shocked because she didn't start until almost 16

My dd was vegetarian all her life & also lactose intolerant so hadn't ever drank milk. She began her period at 11.

I too started at 11, but ate the regular milk & meat diet.

My 10yo hasn't had AF yet, but I was 11 when I got hit.

I ate meat(locally raised), the cows were not given antibiotics unless absolutely necessary & then it would normally be shortly after giving birth & you don't eat those cows for at least a year. They were not given hormones.

at the time I drank milk(I stopped when I was 11), but in Canada milk cows CANNOT be given hormones & if they are given antibiotics the milk legally has to be dumped.

fish was rare, poultry was more often but still quite rare.

Now my sister got her AF 2 years after I did so she was around 14. She drank milk & ate more dairy than I did. She ate meats.

I was the 2nd girl in my grade to get AF. Nobody ate organic foods or were vegetarians.

My DD got AF just as she turned 10. She takes after my DH's family - his mother remembers getting hers in 5th grade, which is 10-11.

My DD does eat meat, but dairy-wise, she doesn't drink milk, only uses it sometimes on cereal or in other cooked foods. The milk I buy is rBGH free, so I shouldn't think it would affect her that way.

Medically, it is only considered "early" if onset of menses is before age 8. Anything after that is considered normal. (This was explained to me by her pediatric endocrinologist.)

my grandma started at 11 1/2, my mom at 12 and me at 11. we all ate meat and drank milk. but i am sure the doctored milk and meat came around my life time. not my mom's or gma's time.

i only have a DS, so they'll be no AF there. but i started @ 8 or 9 and my mom was none too pleased. IDK when she started, but i think it was in high school. i was [almost] vegetarian growing up. only fish and some dairy. never drank milk unless it was in cereal and then it was goat's. but we did do yogurt, cheese, eggs, baked goods containing dairy. very little processed food and no meat at all.

I don't have a daughter but I drank copious amounts of milk growing up and I started mine at 14.

My mom and aunts were 12-13 when they got theirs in the 60s and 70s, and so were my sisters in the 00s.

I started my period at 13, and at the time I drank milk. I don't anymore.

My sister started her period at 10, and she also drank milk. We both eat meat.

I'll vote for myself (I started at age 11). I never drank milk, and did not eat any meat.

I answered for myself. I ate a completely typical American diet and reached menarche at 11.
