I'm not voting b/c my daughter isn't old enough, but what a great thread.

However, I do not think moms should be voting about themselves b/c meat and dairy wasn't so hormone-laden even 20 yrs ago.

I was an omnivore (all conventional) and started at age 10. DD was also an omnivore (mix of conventional and organic) and started at age 11.

You forgot soy and the cr@p that is in our water.

I think it's all related. Hormones in our livestock and dairy, hormones in water supplies, hormone altering substances in soy.....yikes.

And then my dsd has early puberty from both sides of her family. Her mom's side all got their periods at 8 or so, and her dad's side most of the men had full beards by the 9th or 10th grade.

I was careful with her diet and we have catchment water, and we managed to hold puberty off for a couple years longer than was 'normal' for her family.
But I wish now I'd bought hormone free meat/poultry and avoided dairy completely.

Yes to the dairy and the meat . . . I agree that the hormones in our food is correlated to early onset of puberty BUT the women in my family ALL started early. My grandmother, mother aunts, me . . . I was ten. TEN. I think its genetic predisposition as well.

I answered for myself -- I ate meat, dairy and fish (not a Standard American diet, but all of the above, and not organic) and started at 11.5.

My girls eat a little of both and I'm wondering if there is any anecdotal correlation.

Poll coming up...
With my two girls, my 14yr old started the day before her 12th birthday and my 12yr old (will be 13 in Sept.) hasn't started yet. Both are built quite differently if it matters and it doesn't seem like my 12yr old will start before age 13.
Both girls have eaten the same things when it came to dairy, meat and such.
