We didn't circ

After much research and discussion we made the decision not to circ our baby boy. I was glad I didn't have to make the choice with my girls, but when we found out we were having a boy, it just opened up a pandoras box of debates. In any case, when the time came, it just seemed so natural to decline the circ and keep him intact....the way he came into this world. I expected to get a lecture or even a little pressure at the hospital. To my surprise and immense relief, not only did everyone totally respect our decision, but 2 doctors and a nurse gave us the thumbs up for our decision. The doctor who delivered the baby even made the comment: "Good for you for not going down that path." Wow! I was floored! Just thought I'd share......

whenever I return babies from the nursery to the rooms after morning Dr rounds, if the parents didn't circ I always look at the baby and say "lucky baby, you have smart parents!" and then give them a thumbs up.
there are a couple other nurses who I've seen to something similar

Good for you following your heart.
Nice that the hospital has some doctors that are not afraid to speak up.

congratulations, as a doula I have found that quite a few doctors/nurses will give parents the thumbs up when they decline circ. Unfortunately they won't speak up if asked for their opinion from undecided or parents choosing to circ.

Congratulations, what a lucky boy. : You know I've frequently heard of docs and nurses acting that way too. It's a shame they aren't more proactive before parents make this "decision". Hopefully, that will begin to change some time soon.

Congrats Mom on your little boy!

My little (intact) guy had to be admitted to a Level II Unit and I even remember having quite the "intactivist" rant there with the head nurse at 2 am or so- when I came back from pumping and they we're all happy he was going to stay intact. Nobody bat an eyelash or even asked us-the info "do not even dare to touch his foreskin" was in our chart and nobody ever bothered us. Some stupid ped said "oh, well, that's an option as well", received an angry glare from me-and I never saw her again. I am sure there's a reason for that...

Unfortunately they do circs there but every nurse I ever spoke to was RELIEVED not to be part of it with our son.
