Magic loop?

How long do your circs need to be for magic loop? Does the size of your project affect what length cir you would need? Thanks!

My book say 40" for any size sock.

I've magic looped on 80cm before, but that was a single sock, not a pair. There's an element of trial and error in here to make things work for you.

I can do one sock on a 32" but prefer 40", and if I'm doing two socks at a time, I prefer 47".

It is easiest to learn on a needle at least 36" long.

However, I have Magic Looped toy parts on 16" needles.

You can also do a half Magic Loop with only one loop.

I do two on 32" needles as long as the cables are nice and flexible and soft feeling :-) It really is a matter of preference and what feels comfortable to you. I really don't like having a lot of cable all over the place...

I taught my self yesterday. I used what I have so I making fingerless mitts out or worsted weight yarn and using a (oh shoot I don´t remember exactly) 29¨ size 7. You only start with 32 sts so I feel like I hae penty of length. Now I trying to figure out why people still use dpns.

The only reason I can think of for using my dpn's is for I cord :-) I was terrible with dpns....

Couldn´t you do i-cord on circs too? I haven´t tried it but it works in my head. If you knit then slide the work down the cord onto the other needle then knit and slide again. I think I´m going to go give it a try.

Yup, works for me!!

It probably will work :-) I just hate cable all over the place- strange that way LOL. Really I dont use I-cord much so....

I actually like DPNs there is something comforting about it to me.
I do the magic loop (I figured this out halfway by myself due to need once!) but I just get this strange comforting satisfaction out of doing the DPNs sometimes

I prefer dpns too, I've done magic loop, but it was too much fussing around with sliding the stitches. When I was learning to use dpns I had to fuss around to get it right, but now I've learned what needle position works for me and it's much faster/easier than magic loop

I've done it with 16" for hats a few times and it worked swimmingly.

I have a love/hate with dpns. Beehee.

Are there any really good online tutorials for magic loop? I can knit well enough on dpns, I just hate purling on them for some reason, lol. I'm thinking magic loop may save me a trip to the yarn shop for needles a time or two as well.

TIA!

I use a 16" and a 24" for socks and it works wonderfully! I love using dpn's as well, but like how my stitches stay on the needles a bit better with circs (i'm a loose knitter) I went into my local yarn shop and they showed me how to do it...of course by the time I got home I had forgotten I looked on youtube and found video's by typing in the search for 'knitting socks on two circs' or something of the like and came up with several very good tutorials
