No tea tree oil "down there!" ouch.

Ok, as if there weren't enough bodily weirdness coming up on 34 weeks of pregnancy. I decided to be proactive to avoid a (+) GBS test, so I tried using 2 drops of tea tree oil on a witch hazel pad.

OMG.
( tmi warning )
My whole vulva became red, swollen, and itchy, getting worse and worse throughout the day.
I think I messed up my flora and fauna- either an allergic reaction or developed a yeast infection.

This was 2 days ago, and I am still somewhat miserable - maybe a little better after treating for yeast infection.
Anyone else have this problem?
And if anyone is considering doing this, I would procede with CAUTION!

You need to dilute it with a lot of water if you're going to use it. Hibiclens (also very diluted) is a better choice, though.

I hope you start feeling better soon! That sounds very uncomfortable!

Oh no... hope you heal fast

yikes! i hope you are better soon.

I used hibiclens in the shower and in the evenings w/ no ill effects, but I know it can also be pretty drying.

Um, yeah. Two drops in an ounce of water...is more like it. Mix it up in a lil bottle and use that. Witch hazel on top of that...eeek!

Yeah, I feel like an idiot -- and I read the posts pretty closely about GBS prevention- but missed the dilution part - a very *KEY* part! I've only ever used tea tree oil on little cuts, full strength.

Anyway, I've recovered for the most part, but I see this as the universe telling me to let it go - I will just hope for a (-) test. And primo treatment for the parts that are gonna have to work hard for me in just a few short weeks!

Awww, sorry for your going through this! Try taking a garlic supplement. I don't *know* for sure that it works, but with both pregnancies, I've taken it for 2 weeks leading up to the test (and continued it until birth), and gotten a gbs-negative test result. I've also heard you can insert a clove of fresh garlic into your vagina, but I'm not sure when you'd do that...right before the test?

Sounds very painful. Hope you are feeling better.

I'm glad you are feeling better. Do you think it was similar to a chemical burn?

I don't think so . . . my skin has been incredibly sensitive this pregnancy, with dryness, random rashes, reactions to detergents I didn't have before, etc. And it kinda felt more like a raging yeast infection with swelling: ugh.

How embarrassing . . . at least my regular waddle covered for any extra weird walking

I am so glad for this forum : NO where else could I talk about this
