heeeeelp! expert crochet help needed.

so i am working on making an adorable lil monster from a pattern i bought on ETSY. i wont put numbers in, or anything, just the first few lines:
in the pattern for the body it reads:
CH X, in 2nd ch from hook SC. SC back down the chain. in last ch SC 2 into it.

but then it says:
continue to sc AROUND for 34 rounds.

is it worked in the round or in rows? i am confused. she said in an email to make the ch, then turn, and sc up the ch, then to do it in rounds. but the # of sc in a row make 12 inches, if i fold it to make a round starting at the opposite end, then it becomes 6 inches, but its supposed to be 12 inches wide.
HELP how do i make a row into a round without folding it in half???

So this is a monster that's 12" wide? The other alternative would be to work up the round in single crochet, two at the end, then come back down the other side of the foundation chain in single crochet and work in the round that way. If this is the pattern by TrulyOutrageous, that looks possible. Does it tell you in the instructions to seam the top of the body?

I agree, it sounds like you work down one side of your foundation chain and then up the other side and from there continue in rounds along your SC. If there are increases at each end you'll end up with an oval if not it will be a flat pocket.

Yeah, that's probably what it is. If you can link us to the pattern's for-sale page, we can take a look at the picture & probably be able to tell for certain.
