I just have a couple small cloth diapering questions for women in the know.
I ordered a 12 pack of the bum genius 3.0's... I assume I will want to order more as I hear they can wear out fairly quickly if not in wide rotation, correct?
Also I get the feeling that although they are "one size fits all", they may be too bulky for an 8 lb newborn which is what we are expecting. So I was thinking of stocking up on some infant sized disposables in the meantime, does that sound like a good idea?
Also, for our own laundry I use home-made laundry detergent. I use it because I think it not only is a little healthier, and saves a little money, but also because it's just plain fun to use something I made myself!
The ingredients I use are Baking Soda (lots of it) Borax (not quite so much of that) and a good amount of grated bars of soap. (most people use washing soda instead of baking soda but I find it works just fine the way I do it.)
I also like to use vinegar in a downy ball for my fabric softener, since it also helps get rid of soap residue. I have read that both baking soda and vinegar are good things to use on diapers, and also that they are both things that are BAD to use on diapers. So Im a little lost as to what I should be using to wash the diapers in. Any opinions? What do you use to wash your cloth diapers?
and lastly, for cloth wipes, what should I use for material? I read about making my own, but I don't have a sewing machine yet so is it still possible to make my own without one? Would it work to just use infant washcloths as wipes instead?
Thanks everyone.
