Trying to avoid pregnancy while breastfeeding - any options besides barriers or hormones?

I haven't had a postpartum period. DS still nurses every 2-4 hours all day and night.

Is there any option besides and IUD? Is there any variant of natural family planning that works while you breastfeed???

ETA: DS is 10.5 months.

we use withdrawl and I am checking cervical mucous/position daily for signs of ovulation. Once I have a period we will be charting and following the rules outlined in TCOYF..

(I am one year postpartum... : Soren!)

I recommend what the above poster said and you can chart for free at Fertility Planner It's like the Ovusoft Software but free and web based.

It says I can't use it until I am having periods, though. And I have noooo idea when that will be, as DS shows no signs of going more than 2-4 hours between feedings.

I've got tcoyf on hold at the library and will pick it up Friday.

Just so I know what I'm looking for, cervical mucous and position *will* change far enough before I ovulate to avoid intercourse during fertile days? I know I need to read the book (and I need to find the time to do it when I can really pay attention...which is the difficulty I'm having reading websites and other info sources!), but I'm so confused about what happens far enough in advance, and what happens "too late" - like, once it changes you are ovulating and might get pregnant?

I hear Couple to Couple League www.ccli.org has charting instruction for breastfeeding moms.
