hug hold in moby

does anyone know what the reasoning is behind the moby guidebook recommending the hug hold (feet out)--as opposed to the newborn hug hold (feet in)? is there something about development of the hips and spine, is it about weight, head control, etc.? I have a 1month old LO who is over 10lbs and I am just not getting it with the newborn hug hold but the other one was easy when I tried it today for about 20 min, and he liked it but i dont want to use it if it's problematic for him somehow. TIA

of course as soon as I posted this, we figured out the newborn hug hold and he loves it Id still like to know the answer(s) to the questions above, though, if any one has any

i'm wondering about this too. my little guy is 3 1/2 weeks old and hates to have his legs in my wrap, but loves being in it with legs out....
i have an ellaroo woven wrap , though, instead of a stretchy one.

I'd say if baby prefers legs out & you can spread the crosses to his or her knees, then go for it. With the legs just hanging down, I would keep it to shorter time periods. But since your LO is still light it might not be putting much pressure on the hips. You'll know when you take a look at it, and by how comfortable it feels!

I just kinda figured that it was easier to put a newborn in the newborn hug hold than to manipulate their legs through the crosses. Then as they get bigger and more wiggly they will need the security of the crosses to hold them in-- plus they will get too long for the newborn hold!

I think as long as you spread the fabric to his knees, you're fine! I got the Moby when DS was 4 weeks old and we always did legs-out.

i don't know about hip development...i'd say so long as baby seems comfy and mom feels comfy, then don't sweat it. babies are very bendy.

i have a moby, and used it constantly until my ds was about 19 m (then i switched to a structured carrier--i'm no good with a wrap on my back )
Anyway, once he got old enough that his legs were hanging down I would use the horizontal piece (the one that starts against your belly, then yhou pull it around outside the baby--not part of the X, but the stripe across) ...the sides of that piece worked nicely to tuck his legs/feet in sortof wrapped around my waist...his weight was centered on the X which was under his bum/hips, so his knees would actually be above his hips. (I often tied on the wrap folded in half lengthwise, so around my waist that horizontal piece was like a long pocket, and i just put a leg in each side)
If that is all terribly confusing, PM me, i have a pic on my blog but since i also have advertizing on my blog i can't post the url in a thread.
