Driven by rash to sposies, help!

Sorry this is so long, I'm hoping someone can help me figure this out.

DD made it 4 month on cloth nappies with no rash, then last week she just flared up.

She hardly ever sits in a wet nappy as she almost always lets us know right away when she needs a change, and usually in time for us to get the nappy off her before she wees. And poopie nappies, no way. She never poos in her sleep and we change her immediately when she goes and half her poops are out of the nappy anyway.

So what gives?

There are lots of tiny red raised bumps in patches and a general redness and she is very uncomfortable, poor thing.

What we've done: We started using just olive oil and that seemed to help for a day but then it came back again hard. We then did Weleda Calendula cream, and still no good.

We give her lots of nappy free time (and a few nappy free nights).

DH then rang the nappy alarm and we bought some disposables to see if that would help . This seemed to make a big difference, and then after a day we tried cloth again and it flared up. AhHA! So we have a build-up problem! But no, now after two full days in sposies with an initial immediate improvement (also with help of some Metanium), it's now looking worse than ever.

How can I get rid of this blasted rash?

In the meantime I am stripping all the cloth nappies with hot hot wash, some Bio-D and lots of rinsing. The pockets can't wash at the hottest setting, but the prefolds are getting scorched!

But we're not likely to even try the cloth nappies again until we can get rid of the rash. I am committed to both.

Any ideas?

Because you have been using the same diapers for months successfully with the same fibers and detergents I would lean towards some change in the body, ie yeast infection.

I would still strip the diapers, being careful of the detergents and maybe have it looked at.

I wish I had more to offer but I don't. I hope you can get it cleared up quickly. Poor baby.

I agree with PP. Strip you dipes like you plan, and if it were me, I would go get it checked out. Sounds like it could be yeast, but also consider other factors like food allergies. That was the case for us. (Soy gives ds the worst diaper rash!)

Don't feel bad about using sposies, after all, your LO can't live with a permanant rash. I'm sure you'll find a solution if you are persistant.

Also look up yeast & cloth diapers on the forum here, and I bet you'll find some other treatment ideas, too.

The rash sounds like a yeast rash. It will only clear up with an anti-fungal. We used a generic clortrimazole in the foot care aisle and it cleared up the rash.

my dd had a yeast infection (while using disposables). I had to use the anti-fungal cream mixed with triple paste. It took a week or so to clear up, but it worked. I don't know if you can use triple paste with cloth.
