Need a lil help in Georgia

Hi! I am having trouble finding how many doses of dtap, mmr, polio are needed in GA schools starting at age 5. I'm hoping to hold off until then and not sure if my son will have to have more than one does of each 3. Also, can't figure out if they require HepA & Flu, at age 5, and how many doses, if so. Thanks so much for any help!

Just wanted to make sure that you're aware that in GA, none are required.

For what they want you to think you need:

THanks. When you say "none are required" are you talking about a religious exemption? Because that's what we plan to do for pre-k, but I thought we might not need one by age 5, if we only had to do a few vax's and one dose ea.

As long as you were able to opt out of you state's vaccine database, you can still do just the vaxes you choose and still use the religious exemption. If you are done selectively vaxing before school, then you just recently had a religious epiphany and won't be vaxing anymore for religious reasons..if not, you just have to be sure the school doesn't find out that you are vaxing selectively.

They will still require EVERYTHING for school entry...a total catch up. all the recommended doses of all of it.

Thank you again. We stopped vaxing at 6mos. so my child's had many of the requirements. I would think that we can use a "selective religious exemption" based on religious beliefs on not using the vaccines that use animal or human tissue., which include mmr, hep a, chick pox, and flu(the ones we were not too sure about.) So if the state found out we had some vaccines, they would be ones that don't use animal or human tissue.

Actually no, you cannot use religious exemption in that manner. That is considered philosophical exemption, which is not available in your state. Religious exemption can only be used if you state opposition to the practice of vaccination.

Exactly...religious exemption is an all or nothing proposition. You have to believe that injecting vaccinations into the body is against God's will regardless of what they contain.

If your child has already had some, it doesn't matter...you could have come to the realization that the practice of vaccination is against God's will after he was already given them and that is why you stopped.

Thank you for helping me work thru this. So it sounds like it's all or nothing? There would be no way for me to selectively vax thru preschool & forward. So even if I don't want my child to get a flu shot, I have to abstain from all vaccines and claim religious?

Yes, unless you can opt out of the state vaccine registry. If the school has no way of knowing what vaccines you are selectively giving, then you can get away with claiming a religious exemption.

But even that can be tricky waters to navigate. If the school somehow finds out you are selectively vaxing, they'll likely revoke your exemption - and there go any future chances of getting one.

Use this!

To Whom It May Concern:

As legal parent of __________________________________, I hereby request that my son be enrolled in school with out immunization because it violates the free exercise of my personal beliefs and religious principles.

This affidavit of religious conflict with immunization requirements is in compliance with the Official Code of Georgia, Annotated, Section 20-2-771. It is to be filed as legal proof of parent's objection with Student's school health records.
