In a post baby fit of I hate makeup/everything sucks/who has time to wear makeup I threw all mine out. Most it was old, like from high school, so it wasn't a huge deal. No though I'm starting to miss being bale to wear makeup and I want to restock. The only problem is I have no idea what the basics are or really even how to put them on (did I mention I wore makeup twice a year at most?) What do you guys use (not too expensive though) and what are some good tips for applying makeup?

Hi,
I really don't know a whole lot makeup application and I know that's what you were mainly asking about, BUT I do know a lot about the chemicals in makeup and try to let people know that there are alternatives to the stuff at the local grocery store.
I buy my cosmetics online from Cosmetics without Synthetics. They have everything and not terribly expensive.
I also would suggest checking out the Environmental Work Group website. I think it's EWG.com and look up the cosmetics database. There you can find a non-biased rating of some of the most popular cosmetics. It tells exactly what chemicals are in each of the products and what problems they can cause. Some can even affect fertillity over the long term

I was in your exact position a year ago! I knew nothing about makeup but wanted to give it a try. I started with samples of Everday Minerals and watched some You Tube videos about makeup application. Now I love playing with my makeup. It looks great and I feel so feminine!

If you still don't really like wearing makeup than just the basics will work for you. I don't like makeup but I have:
Foundation-for special events only
Concealer-for scars, pimples, dark circles under eyes, used on an as needed basis
Mascara in black- 2-3x a week
Beige/neutrals eyeshadow 1x month
Blush 2/month
Lipsticks/glosses-almost daily
Or course makeup only looks good if your skin is healthy (at least that's my opinion) so get a facial care routine too if you don't already have one.
Makeup that I like that is natural-Physicians Formula Organic line-blush and bronzer (used as eyeshadow
), Burt's Bees lip glosses are awesome, Aveda lipstick.
I also use Clinique occasionally, it's not natural but it's good quality makeup and lasts a long time.
