Frugal decorating?

I was wondering if anyone had any good DIY decorating websites? We are moving next weekend and I'd really like to make a few changes, without spending much money.

Specifically I'm looking for things I can do in our bedroom (like a new headboard or blinds) & living room. It's a rental, so painting is out. I need some ideas for filling blank wall space (without buying expensive art!).

Just curious if anyone has any good websites or ideas to share. I can buy some things, but we are really trying to cut spending and stay frugal right now.

Thanks!

I always go for cheap tapestries or batik wall hangings for big impact. Or at a craft store get a bunch of manzanita branches and tie them with a string and hang from a nail. That's whats behind my bed right now, it's pretty.

I made our own drapes from fabric bought online at Ebay.

Some places/stores to look for cheap stuff to decorate are (my favorites)

the thrift store (of course)
Big Lots
Craft Stores like Michaels or Hobby Lobby
yard sales, flea markets

I like to use houseplants alot as home decor, they are cheap sometimes and add a green element to your house.

I've just filled a medium sized wall with framed photos of my family. The frames are different sizes and quite cheap. I bought 2 or 3 a week so the cost was spead out.

How arty are you? Can you paint at all? You can buy blank canvases from an art store and paint your own art or you could stretch your fave fabric over one.

Chez Larson is awesome. On one of her posts she got a large art canvas and painted it a single colour to add punch to her wall without painting the actual wall. Lots of diy on her site.

well, in our bedroom I have nothing on the walls, I have been using the coupons from micheaels for 40% off and buying a few at a time and now I have pictures of dd and us hanging up scattered on the wall. Curtains I bought on clearance at target online and the rest of the curtains I have collected over the years from relatives and such.

I did pick up some artwork at michaels or ac moor on clearance. I also found some decorative things at homegoods on clearance as well. Happy decorating!
