During the news broadcast, I counted 8 drug commercials and 5 non-drug commercials. Drug commercials:

Pepto Bismol (Proctor and Gamble)
Flomax (Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals)
Zyrtec (Pfizer)
Alka Seltzer (Bayer)
Orencia (Bristol-Myers Squibb)
Advil PM (Wyeth)
Gas X (Novartis)
Lipitor [which also sponsored a segment on the news broadcast] (Pfizer)

Proctor and Gamble - teamed up with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to provide tetanus vaccines

Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals - animal vaccines

Pfizer - Vaccines Research is a key part of the new Biotherapeutics Line in Pfizer Research. The vaccines research departments in Sandwich, UK and La Jolla, CA seek to discover novel vaccines (prophylactic and therapeutic) for the prevention and treatment of significant human diseases (infectious diseases, oncology, CNS and Allergy and Respiratory) using a variety of vaccines technology platforms combined with immunomodulatory agents.

Bayer - animal vaccines, and from 2002: German drug maker Bayer yesterday said it has signed an agreement with the World Health Organization to develop an affordable malaria vaccine for use in developing countries.

Bristol-Myers Squibb - "Bristol-Myers Squibb Company (NYSE: BMY) and Progenics Pharmaceuticals Inc. announced today a licensing agreement under which Bristol-Myers Squibb will obtain exclusive rights to Progenics' GMK and MGV cancer vaccines."

Wyeth - manufacturers and markets vaccines

Novartis - the world's fifth-largest manufacturer and second-largest supplier of influenza vaccines in the US. The division's products include influenza, meningococcal, pediatric and travel vaccines.

I saw the story and wanted to know about the 5 cases that the doc talked about. I believe it was meningitis (can't remember which disease exactly)? But, she said there had been an outbreak and 3 of the 5 children who had the disease were unvaccinated and how dangerous it was. Well, she didn't say what the status of the other 2 were??? Were they vaccinated? If so, that's practically a 50/50 split and not an outbreak caused by non-vaccination.

It was a very biased story and they left so many questions unanswered. They talked about children that aren't vaccinated leave the doors open for these horrible viruses and bacteria to spread and grow. But, they didn't address that science is now finding that by vaccinating for one rather mild childhood illness caused by one strain of a virus we're now seeing a huge increase in the number of less treatable/more aggressive forms of another strain (help me out, I can't remember which virus, memory seems to think it is related to an ear infection???). Sorry, my brain isn't working at 100% capacity right now.

They act like parents that choose to not vaccinate don't really understand the science or are scared of injury only. But, they don't address the reality of the science, how vaccines are not 100% effective and have not been thoroughly safety tested, or talk about how many of these chemicals they want us to inject into our children or how the issue of getting a vaccine on the mandatory list is fueled by drug companies marketing machines and not science/doctor lead.

Very interesting - thanks for pointing out all of the advertisers.

Probably the Hib thing. Three of the 5 were diagnosed with meningitis. Two of those 3 were vaccinated on schedule. One vaccinated child they claim was immunocompromised (surprise, surprise) and the other child had 2 of 3 in that particular series. None of the 5 had contact with each other and they were all in different counties. It was spread out over the entire year.

They want you to think "outbreak" so you assume contagious, here it comes. We are then supposed to be scared of each other and, in particular, those horrible unvaxed children.

It would be nice if they would measure the "outbreak" of vax-damaged children.

My mom actually called me about this since she knows this is my soap box issue (luckily she has always been supportive. I didn't see it. I told DH why my mom called and that I didn't want to watch it because it would probably be biased and make me mad. DH kept insisting it would be fair and balanced because it's a new story.

I heard the kid died because the parents refused antibiotics??

Anyone know if that's true?

I've read a few articles on it but I don't believe any of them mentioned that. There really isn't very much detail about it.

We don't watch TV, so I didn't know about this until MIL brought it up....along with another plea to "vaccinate my granddaughter so she doesn't die."

The biased media makes me so, so sick!
