"Vaccines are like hugs..." billboard.

There is a billboard here that says "Vaccines are like hugs... you don't want to miss one." and it infuriates me!

Even if you were gung ho about vaccinating it would be irresponsible to imply that a vaccine is as harmless and beneficial as a hug! I can't believe the way they prey on people's lack of education about the matter.

Hugs don't hurt, no one ever had an allergic reaction to a hug, no one ever had 'side effects' from a hug and no one ever DIED from a hug!

You'd think even doctors who promote vaccinating would be offended by this advertising campaign.

Ridiculous!

I'm in TX and I've seen those too. Makes me furious!!! Also, the only places I've seen them in town are the not so "well off" areas - makes me even more mad!

:

This gets brought up here ever now and them. I alway have a mental image of someone opening their arms to give and hug and their arms and chest are covers in hypodermic needles. It makes me chuckle.

The ads that have been popping up on my local mom's site say "Good health doesn't happen by itself. Is your child fully immunized?" and leads to our state's HD site.

It's irksome as all get out.

We passed one of these once my husband said "yeah, like a hug from a rattlesnake." We giggled.

I'm so tired of the "If you love your children you'll vaccinate" propaganda. Anyone one else seen the commercial with the child's voice talking about how important vaccines are? That one irritates me too.

No. I haven't seen it yet but propaganda of any kind makes my skin crawl.

Yeah, we have one that says "Do it for me." And shows a gorgeous little baby. Later on the road, it has "Do it for me." And shows a grandmother and her grandchild.

There were similar billboards last year for the flu shot and pertussis last year that were in that same vein around here

Huh, they don't have that stuff here but they certainly do have advertising for optional vacciines. There was one for the HPV vacciine (which is not mandatory) which had, surprise surprise, a young, blond, clean cut, pearl-wearing white woman with her similar-looking mother and some sort of "protect her" BS beneath the picture. Yes, I did get the message: this vacciine is not for dirty sex-enjoying sexuality-owning sleeping-with-more-than-one-man whores, but for virginal white ladies whose boyfriends may have slept around before settling down with a good clean girl who wouldn't want to get HPV from him (sorry for the language, but that's what the picture screamed). :
Now there's one for Hepatitis A and it has these scary posters that have a map of Asia in bright red and the text "Are you and your family going on vacation - TO ASIA? Protect yourself before you go" And a similar one with Africa. Never mind most people who go on vacations to third-world countries from here spend their entire time at expensive sanitized resorts far from any risk of infection of any kind. Can you say scare tactics? Grrr.

The one with the child's voice on the radio asking mom and dad to vaccine them makes me so mad and they were playing it for every commercial break. I had to turn the radio off, it drove me nuts.

Here in Canada they are ALWAYS playing the HPV commercials- and I growl at the TV almost every time. They are so manipulative, and SO misleading!

The Health Unit in our area does the same thing with their ads "if you love your child, VACCINATE!" I even had a nurse call me and tell me I hadn't vaccinated, and I needed to do so RIGHTNOW.

The alarmist attitude is so mind numbing, and laughable.

You don't want to miss a hug?

What if some creepy stranger wants to hug my kids? No way! So why would I want my kids to get every vaccine? Hugs are not always wanted! What a silly ad.

Wait,,,you do wanna miss that...
