Midwife in St. Louis?

I am not totally caught up on what is going on with midwifery in Missouri. But with the new law, can I have a home birth (legally) now? By October? How would I go about finding a midwife? How much would it cost around here? Is there any chance of my insurance helping at all? Thanks!

I would check out this site: http://missourimidwives.net/ I don't have any personal experience with this, just noticed that no one responded to your questions. Hope this helps!!

This is kind of a bump because I know lots of local mamas are more informed about this than I am. And the website above probably answers all your questions. But I wanted to let you know it is only technically legal if it's performed by a CNM (certified nurse midwife) and, as far as I know, there is currently only 1 in our area. There are sure to be more soon, as others scramble to get the certification. I think the fee is $1500. I've heard of insurance covering it in other states but not here. That may have changed with the law. Good luck!

No, sorry, you have that wrong a little bit--

It is CPMs who recently became legal in MO--that's Certified Professional Mw, NOT certified nurse-mw. Can be confusing, I know! But you are right as far as I know, there is 1 CPM in St L area.

Oops! Thanks for that, I was hoping someone with more knowledge than me would check my info.

Have you tried getting in contact with Friends of Missouri Midwives? They are a consumer group that might be able to help you out.

CPMs are now legal. But I think most of the MWs are still trying to get that certification.

This thread looks a little old, but I am wondering if anyone has worked with the midwives Linsey Kornya and/or Barb Hoffmeier in St. Louis? Any feedback you can provide in a PM would be great. Thanks.

I responded by PM but just wanted to say in this thread that we have worked with Linsey and she is a consummate professional and was wonderful at our birth.
