Retracting question

Hi,
Within the last two days or so, I have noticed that my son's foreskin is starting to retract. He is 4. I've also noticed that he has been pulling and tugging at it. So, today he tells me his penis hurts a few times (but seems fine most of the time). I'm assuming he may have pulled a little too hard, perhaps forcing it back somewhat. ? He also told me once that it hurt when he went pee - just at first. I've never forced it back and neither has the doctor. So, I'm wondering is this normal...could he have pulled it back too far himself or is it normal to cause some discomfort when it first retracts? It doesn't appear to be red or swollen.

It sounds like normal separation symptoms from how I'm reading it and nothing to worry about. There is a thread about separation here. I'll bump it up for you.

imagine you saw him playing with his toes. fiddling with them, etc. he tells you his toe hurts. you check it out, see there's nothing you can see wrong, nothing stuck in it whatever.
most moms would now just kiss it and forget about it.
when a kid says his penis is sore, people tend to worry a lot about potential problems. its best to treat it like any other body part, and for the most part, leave it alone and it will be fine.
