Timing Contractions - the link has more info, here is a summary.

There are two factors to consider when timing contractions. How far apart are the contractions, and how long are the contractions?

To determine how far apart the contractions are you begin timing at the start of a contraction, and end timing at the beginning of the next contraction.

To determine how long a contraction is, you begin timing at the beginning of a contraction, and end at the end of the same contraction.

When you want to time your contractions, mark the beginning and ending times for about five contractions and then get an average.

DH and I found this information to be really useful as we had no idea how to properly time a contraction before we had kids....

I used this site last time. I told my 7 yr old son to press the space bar every time I told him to and he had so much fun with it! I also copied the results to keep.

haha. That is so cool. Definitely fun for those older kiddos! I'll have to pass those links on to a friend who could use them!

We were like completely obsessed last time with timing contractions. By the end of day 2 in full blown labor, we stopped. LOL.
