wash hair with soap nuts?

Does anyone wash their hair with soap nuts? if you do, can you explain how you do it? I tried to do it today and I didn't love it- I feel like my scalp is still greasy and I'm not sure about how much I love the texture of my hair..

I think that there's a reason that shampoos are detergents rather then soaps.
I washed my hair with diluted Dr. Bronner's once. It was horrible.

soap nuts aren't really soap- they're seeds that release a cleaning saponin when submerged in water. I soaked the nuts overnight and used the liquid to wash my hair. some people swear by it so I'm trying to figure out what I did wrong..

Some of these things have a breaking in period, I would try it a few days and maybe try a Apple Cider Vinager rinse to go with the Soap Nuts.

Very interesting! Soap nuts are different than castile soaps. They are much better as an all purpose cleaner/degreaser around the home IMO. It seems like they might do better on hair too. I think I will try this next time I wash.

Here's a thread on another board where a bunch of us are trying or have tried washing with soapnuts. I did four times. It didn't work great for me, but others are just loving it:

try to use soap nut powder. itz much more better. mix with water. just apply on your scalp. be carefull it can irritiate ur eye. apply twice. a cup of water with two tea spoon of soap nut powder. soap nut will clear the sebum. it wont make the hair shaft dry. thatis the differents. apply two drops of virgin coconut oil before bed.

I use whole soapnuts to begin with. I boil them in water and get the extract (squeeze the fruits so I don't lose any of the precious chemical). I recommend that you oil your hair several hours before washing with soapnut as the rinsing is going to make the hair a little brittle. After wetting the hair, apply generous quantities of the soapnut solution to the scalp and rinse vigorously 10-15 times in each place. Let it stand for 5-10 min and then wash. Now apply some more soapnut solution and you'll see the lather coming. If not happy if the lather, repeat the process. Excessive soapnut in the scalp can do no harm. It keeps yours scalp residue free for much longer than other shampoos. Once you figure out how to make that bitter stinky liquid turn into lather, you'll never want to use a shampoo again! Good luck!
