DS forcibly retracted himself- now what?

My almost 4 year old got a little overzealous exploring himself on the toilet today and forced his foreskin back farther than he should have. He is sore and is oozing a little blood. Should I put antibacterial ointment on it or just leave well enough alone? I do plan on letting him soak in a bath once his little sis wakes up (the bathroom is next to where she is sleeping otherwise I would do it now...). Sorry if this is not the appropriate forum for this question

Thanks

I would leave it alone unless you see signs of an infection setting in. A soak in a bath would be very soothing - maybe add a little baking soda. If he has pain while urinating I'd let him pee in the bath or in a cup of water with his penis submerged in the water.

Hugs to you both.

The fact that he did it himself and not someone else (like a doctor) means that things will probably be fine. Chances are he would not have done it had the foreskin not be somewhat ready and if it was very painful. Let him know to tell you if it starts burning or hurting. I bet it will feel better in a few days. This was bound to happen sooner or later since little boys have curious hands. Ditto the suggestion of the PP. Its like after we have a baby and the sitz bath's feel good and take the sting out of peeing. I guess it is the same for a boy.

My DS did the same thing a few months ago, and some sitz baths did help him feel better. At first he was scared to pee again because he was afraid it was going to hurt, but that passed quickly. After a few days he was healed.
