What are your stockpile essentials?

I am rebuilding my stockpile right now and trying to get away from processed foods in our house. I typically stock up on things like rice, beans, canned stock, canned veggies (not much, usually do fresh or frozen), canned tomatoes, pasta, flour, sugar. I'm making a list and drawing a blank on what else I need.

What is in your stockpile?

for this month i'm adding

quinoa (easy to cook and lots of protein)
lentils
polenta (cornmeal)
rolled oats
popping corn

i'm trying to get things that don't take forever to cook like beans but are still pretty nutrient dense.

i'm also planning on lots of potatoes, yams, and squash this year in the garden, things that can store, lots of vitamins, nutrient dense.

Basically in my admittedly limited stockpile, is just non-perishable and grains/pasta stuff that we already use. Extra boxes of pasta, 20 lb bag of rice, 2 gal vinegar, lots of canned goods including beans and tuna, baking soda, borax, Ovaltine, crackers, peanut butter and jellies, lemon juice, sardines, a little juice, mac n cheese (because I got organic mac n cheese for .50 one time at a closeout sale), mustard, .....oh and in the garage fridge is extra packs of flour and sugar and chocolate

There's a lot of multi purpose stuff (baking soda, lemon juice, vinegar)in there. And a lot of food that has a lot of nutrients per dollar like sardines and peanut butter.

It's a bit low right now, but for the most part, we have pasta, veggies (canned and frozen), flour, cornmeal, and sugar. I need to stockpile on fish (frozen or fresh) and mac-n-cheese soon. Gotta get ready for lent!

Basic baking supplies - flour, sugar, salt, baking soda, baking powder, vanilla.

Lots of pasta and rice (we don't do beans)

I haven't seen cooking oils listed yet, so, I'll throw that on.

Also baking supplies like yeast, baking powder, spices, vanilla extract.

I have more than that, but, it looks like most of it has been mentioned.

I always keep plenty of rice, dried pasta, peanut butter, tuna and canned soups. I currently have a lot of sugar and flour because I got them at a really good price, but don't use them often. Canned tomato products, beans, spices.

Non-food items I have stockpiled are toilet paper, feminine hygiene products and toothpaste. I also have quite a lot of shampoo and lotion at the moment.

I also keep a lot of over-the-counter drugs in the house. Not because I fear I can't get them, but because I never want to run out and have to go get them when I'm sick. I have antacids, certain cold remedies and pain relievers good through 2011.

I shop at warehouse type stores and in bulk so depending whats on sale I may have like 100 rolls of TP but normally I keep basics because I buy organic bulk so its flour, sugar, salt, butter(fridge) and things like pasta and assort canned veggies/fruits. I also keep a few cans of diced chicken/tuna on hand. I learned after a hurricane hit and we lost all our meats/chicken that was in our freezer. I t was nice to have canned ones to make meals.

I know people stockpile for various reasons. Since our area is prone/likely to have natural disasters that is what we prepare for. I wanted to make a suggestion for those who have a outdoor grill to keep on hand either an extra full propane tank or charcoal. We have gone several days without electricity or gas due to natural disasters but it was always a relief to know we could *cook* our food or boil water if need be.

1/2 full 5 gallon container of dish liquid
1/2 full 5 gallon container of laundry liquid
bucket of ingredients for making soap, candles, and personal care items
years supply TP
several tubes toothpaste
"" boxes Q tips and cotton pads

an insane amount of pesto (basil went nuts last year)

In our upstairs pantry:
qt-1/2 gallon jars of many kinds of beans
gallon jars of 6 different kinds of pasta
baking powder
honey
molasses
several jars of many kinds of vinegar
four kinds of cooking oil
smaller quantites of most of the stuff in the basement
cold cereal
fresh fruit, garlic, onions, potatoes, fresh bread, etc.
a container of sprouting alfalfa seeds
homemade baking mixes for breadsticks/biscuits, cornbread, muffins, and pancakes
raisins
coconut
and I'm sure a few other bits and bobs

We have roughly six months of food on hand virtually all the time. We have a master list of things we buy and we shop only to replenish the pantries/freezer. The only disposible things we use are TP, Qtips, cotton pads, first aid (ie, bandages), and toothbrushes. Because we have the option of cloth butt wipes, our yearly TP consumption is one XL package of Scott 1000 sheet rolls. All our other disposible/consumable goods (except for dish/laundry liquid) fit in a laundry basket, and there is anywhere from 6-12 months worth of stuff in there.

What about vitamins? Would that be a good thing to have a supply of? If so, what kind?

I'm a bit clueless about this but now I want to make a stockpile too.

NUTELLA!

My dd and I agreed to stop trying to stockpile Nutella because we'd just eat it ALL in the first week, no matter how many jars, and then we'd need to stockpile extra pants in larger sizes....
