Shopping cart covers

I was just wondering if anyone had a personal favorite. I'd love to get one custom made w/some fabric I have. After doing some googling, this is what I've found - Kozy Pal isn't open for customs right now though.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

The Kozy Pal design studio is right down my street. I was always wondering what it was. Never googled it.

Sorry, no advice though. I don't own a cart cover. I'm the germX lady who wipes down the cart before shopping.

I got the infantino one from Target. We tried the eddie bauer one but it ties onto the cart...way too inconvenient.

I think they get trashed too much to bother with homemade.

I bought a pattern on Etsy for one and made it with some flannel I had at home. It was my first sewing project and if you don't look to closely it looks really good Maybe you can find someone on Etsy you can send your fabric to for a custom order?

That's something I'd go cheap on. With both kids it's been really useful- for a month or two- tops. Then never used again.

I actually have one of those Kozypal cart covers. I bought it for my oldest son, and used it quite a bit. The mama who makes them is on another board I'm on.

It was handy not just for shopping carts, but also for restaurants high chairs and such. They are quite fluffy and had loops for toys, and a pocket in the front. I loved mine (it was way more padded than the ones you see at BRU or Target), and since I live in the PNW it was a godsend for thsoe 10 months out of the year when shopping carts are wet from being stored outside! I now use it on my six month old, so I've gotten a lot of usage out of it! This is something I definately recommend to all my new mama friends.

If you're crafty though, I've heard they're not that difficult to make. Just make sure to use extra padding, it does make a difference!

Ugh, KP isn't open for custom, huh? That stinks! I have a Kozy Pal from 3 years that I ordered when I was pregnant with my son and I just love it! Melissa does amazing, beautiful work. It has held up great and I am now using it for my daughter.

Have you looked on Etsy?

If you get a well made homemade one, then it will last much longer than a cheaply made, mass produced one. I can say that my KP one has been through the wringer with my son and now my daughter. We do BLW and my children know how get every inch of the cover completely covered with food in about 3 seconds! So, our cover has been washed many times and it still looks great, no stains and is still fluffy.

I knew those Kozy Pals would be good:P I want one but in a fabric I have here that I've been hoarding for years. The other link I posted is available for custom orders I just like all the extras that the KP has. Maybe she'll open soon for customs.

Thanks guys - you've been helpful!

I got a beautiful one from this Etsy seller. Very high quality and gorgeous fabric.

I love my kozypal and use it all the time. It is great for highchairs also. I can see myself using it for a long time and even keeping it for another child.
I got mine on sale on her site and it was well worth the money spent.

So true! I wish I had known this 2 months ago! We bought the Floppy Seat for like $40 and already its usefulness is waning. Darn it!

might be true for some???- but I have used mine for years, why won't you?

as long as they sit in the cart- it was used. I wash mine, so I wanted a better one that would hold up.

I really wanted a beautiful, monogrammed one...but couldn't bring myself to pay $60+ for one. I just bought the Infantino cover from Walmart. We've used it for about a year now.

Why would you only use it for a couple of months? As long as the kid sits in the cart, the cover can be used. Years! Keeps me from having to wipe down the handle.

20 bucks well spent.

I loved my shopping cart cover, my original one I bought off of ebay. DH thought it was a little over protective but he too was soon using it all the time. We wore ours to death, literally the fabric was worn thin but after 3 yrs and constant laundering (our carts here are NASTY and no they dont have wipes) I ended up tearing apart my bought one and using it as a template for another one when my 2nd came around. I loved it because in the winter inevitably all the carts where out in the rain and in the summer they could cook eggs on them they were so hot. Not to mention the nastyness of the carts in general. It was really easy its basically a large oval with some batting sandwiched beteen then I marked the leg holes and cut out and then pinned the basting tape around the holes. sewed it up and then added the elastic to the edging.

I just use it more as something to cushion them and take up the extra space in the cart seat/high chair when they're a new sitter. Once they have excellent trunk control and aren't likely to topple over, I typically just place them directly in the cart seat/high chair. If I were using it mostly for germ control I guess I'd use it longer.

It's a pretty bulky thing to lug around, and I think it's kind of a hassle to set up and take down, so I guess I just use it for a short time because I get sick of it.

I USE it for germ control as the #1 reason, none of the shopping places I see clean the carts, (the rain is the only way they get clean)-- I don't one my child sitting in where someone else's dirty diaper was, some leak >>or even raw chicken!! YUCK! The handles alone are filled with germs!

See, I rather wipe everything down with GermX, throw a blanket over the handle and done. I'm worried more about playstructures and doctor's offices.

I posted a thread about seat covers last week. I ended up buying one on EBay...it wasn't cheap but I think it will be well worth every penny. I haven't gotten it yet but the pictures looked like a nice product and the seller had raving reviews. Just go to EBay and search for 'shopping cart covers' and you will find many options.

This thread is interesting to me.

We never used a shopping cart cover. I was too lazy to carry one more thing into the store other than my kid and diaper bag. And I never liked the idea of stuffing one into my already full diaper bag.

My kid just got shoved into the cart. We're building strong immune systems around here I guess.
