Root canal extraction and breastfeeding

I think my 17 year old root canal is infected (probably has been since I've had it, from what I'm reading). It's really tender and 'tastes' bad... I'm planning to go to the dentist next week, but I'm preparing myself for having it redone or having it completely removed, which is my preference.

Does anyone have any resources for me? I was hoping to breastfeed for at least a couple more years, but I don't want to dump a bunch of toxins into my 10 month old daughter.

Not sure what to do at this point...

Don't worry, I just had a ton of oral surgery complete with nasty abcesses and there are tons of breastfeeding friendly options for everything. And my nursling was only 5 mo when I started so you probably have even less to worry about. Definately look up the info yourself though; unfortunately IME most Dr's are way off when it comes to having accurate info on which drugs are ok for breastfeeding moms.

I am interested in this thread also. I do not have any problems at this time, but I am really curious if there are any other ways than antibiotics to deal with root infection/abscess.

What I am concerned about, beyond anesthesia and pain medication, is the toxic load that is released into the bloodstream post extraction. I am reading that removing a root canal is just as toxic and as difficult on your immune system as removing amalgams. I want to know if it will have the same effect on my breast milk. Also, is there any specific 'protocol' to removing root canals similar to the Cutler many MDC mamas are using for amalgams?
