hey there ex-pats living in the UK!

Thought it might be nice to have a thread where we can all virtually "meet up".

What have been your greatest difficulties in moving to the UK?

What do you miss the most about your country of orgin?

What do you like the most about the UK?

My greatest difficulties have been on the US end, basically the logistics of moving while dealing with a toddler, a nine and seven year old, and a newborn, oh, and ppd and spd to boot. Yikes! I still shudder to think of all the stress I was under.

Now, I find it hard to understand people sometimes. After asking someone to repeat themselves three times I tend to nod and change the subject.

Everyone has been super friendly, though and all around it has been a great experience.

I miss most about the states my friends and family. I also miss nutritional yeast and good barbeque sauce (I'm originally from Memphis, TN.)

I love how the towns are laid out here, very walking friendly. While people aren't as chatty as I am, I have found them to be very helpful and respectful and easy to get along with.

I also love the history here, and of course the beach. (Our last home in the US was in Indiana). We live in walking distance to both a castle and the ocean. I love that.

By the way, I'm Jo. I'm homeschooling my small herd of children in southwest Wales. We are here on a two year ex-pat assignment, but are seriously considering emigrating. (Really, we do love it here.)

I'm not an ex-pat (born and bred Brit!) but just wanted to say welcome to our lovely island!
