Non Vaccinating-DISCRIMINATION??!?!?

I was told via phone today that if we choose to no longer delay or dd's MMR shot and refuse the vaccine, then they will discharge us from care. WTF??? Isn't that discrimination against religious preferences? (since that's the waiver we have to sign to be exempt)

I wonder if it has anything to do with the EMR that is part of the stimulus that our, oh so smart, government just passed? I have a feeling this will become pretty routine soon.

discharged from whose care?

from our pediatrician's care. But I just talked to them and reworded it. Told them we are delaying it until further notice-to make the right choice for our child, based on research and that might take a while as all the research we keep doing, points us in different directions, creating more research. There are only so many hours in the day. And TBH, I'd rather spend time with my child than researching about a vaccine I really dont' want her to get!

errrghHHH!

Exemptions are all about school, not health care providers. They can (and DO) "fire" you from their practice. Have you refused any other vaccines?

So, you talked to them, re-worded, and did they accept this? Be warned, they have noted that you are only delaying the vaccinations and they will continue to ask you about them at every. single. visit.

In the meantime, you might want to begin searching for a new health care provider for your munchkin. Try a family practitioner (they don't seem to push the vaccines nearly as much) or a naturopath (even better!). Try contacting a local health food store and see if they know of any non-vax-friendly health care providers nearby.

I am suggesting your searching for a new doc as your current one will get wise to your supposed delaying and the call about this will come again.

We were recently discharged by a ped practice for "refusing to adhere" to their "vaccination policies". Judging from the large number of recent threads/posts on this subject, I'd say it's the new trend amongst pediatricians, to try and force vaccination compliance.

Find a good family practitioner. We are very happy with ours, and I wish I'd switched years ago and saved myself all the BS I've been through with the peds.

As a PP noted, the waiver is for school and daycare, not the doc's office. They don't give a hooter's damn about your religion, it's of no consequence to their office. What they'll want you to sign is a Refusal to Vaccinate form, which has also been discussed at length in this forum.

Time to find a health care practitioner that will respect YOU and YOUR decisions. That being said, we see a family doc when we need (which has not been that often).

Good luck. Remember, they work for you. And if you are not happy with their service, it is time to fire them.

I don't think it falls under the category of religious discrimination, although I know it is infuriating. It's beyond my comprehension why doctors choose to turn away parents who educate themselves and want to make pro-active choices about the care their children are receiving.

You might check out this website and see if you can find a vaccine-friendly doctor in your area:

We see a family doctor that we love, and she never argues with my decisions regarding vax and in fact discouraged us from getting the prevnar. I found her by asking around on our local holistic parenting group (on Yahoo). Good luck. I think you can overcome this just by finding the right caregiver.

It's pretty common practice, unfortunately. We got fired from a ped a year ago for delaying vax. In the end, I realized that we were much better off! I now have a wonderful ped for my DD that doesn't blink an eye that she is 2 and still completely nonvaxed! Good luck finding someone who will respect you and your decisions!

We were fired once too. Go to the tribal thread and ask for your area!

My current doc is vax happy, but not hassling us since we arent in daycare, etc. I guess we are a menace to society, but since contained she will keep seeing us until he turns 3, then I can see her firing us. Hopefully we will move out of state by then.
