International rural travel and home school.

hi there.
I am going to be taking a year off next year to travel with our family and we are hoping to home school for the year and then possibly continue. Thing is, I don't know where to start! For the first year it is harder because we will be very transient, staying in rural areas and not be able to take much luggage. My children are currently in third grade, second grade and kindergarten, along with a little bub. So to all you awesome home schoolers, if you have any advice for me I greatly appreciate it.
Oh, we will be ending up back home in Australia, but I do not know much about the Aussie home school systems, so if there are any Aussie mamas out there reading, please drop me a comment!

What an incredible way to learn about the world. I would say spend the year focusing on Geography and History. You will BE in all those wonderful places. Learn from the locals. Pick up books and artifacts from the areas you are visiting. What a great opportunity for your family.

Sounds so cool! Do you know which countries you will be visiting? We travel a lot and I use this site for book ideas http://www.travelforkids.com/
I focus on geography and we read historical fiction and other resource books to learn about the area.
Have fun!!

I would say for at least the time you are traveling like that take a more unschool-ish approach. traveling like that opens up so many ways to learn without having to cart around worksheets! history, geography, world cultures / religions , math (tavel time / money etc) foreign languages etc.

I say there is no need to worry about them 'not learning' while traveling.
