Hi everyone, I am due in Sept and I am trying to figure out if I need to buy a few more newborn/small fitteds (I was thinking about going with the little beetleone and get 4 or 5 of them) or make due with what I have and figure it out

here is what I have now

7 ME newborn fitted
6 ME small fitted
16 ME One size
28 BG onesize
about two dozen large prefolds and 12 hemp babies prefolds
Everything has at least two years of use
except for the newborn Dipes
Ds was 7 5 at birth so all of the small and onesize did not fit until he was about 10 weeks. He was also in the Nicu the first week so we did not need diapers and then we were given about a hundred sposies. What would you recommned I do. I really do not want to spend more $$. But it would be nice to have a couple really soft new diapers. One option I thought I may explore is EC as the first couple weeks will be warm enough. after that it will be to cold to practice it on a regular basis.
Thank You in Advance!

I think you may want some more newborn size. You really only have 7 newborns. Everything else will be to big in the beginning

My new one is due at the end of August, so I'm subbing for ideas. I have small Sandies and one size, so I'll need something little. We did really casual EC here, and we get pretty cold winters; we actually had the best success with EC in January in a cold snap (-30C) 'cause we were home so much. Babylegs are great for in the house (nakey butt) and out and about with a dipe.

Anyway, I'm thinking prefolds for a newborn, but I have no idea what brand, or really how to work them!

Are you going to use prefolds? Will the larges work?

I used disposables for the first 6 weeks. If I were to do it all over again, and do cloth from the start, I'd do prefolds and covers until the bigger dipes fit. You go through so many dipes in those early weeks and prefolds would make the quantity needed much more affordable. I'd forgotton how many diapers we went through at first!

I'd definitely get a couple dozen infant prefolds. It's unlikely the S ME or any of the OS dipes will fit for the first few weeks. Even if you do EC, they'll soak up any messes/spit-up/etc.

I agree - I would get some nb or infant pf's. I think a lot of people can get by with infant pf's, but my ds dropped down to 6 lbs after birth and I think he would have fit into nb's for quite a while (we were using sposies then). I think I might get 12 nb and 18 infant and see how it goes. I'm going to make some and buy some. Even now, ds is 24 mo. and the regular pf's are still too long.

If you can sew, you can make your own pf's! It's not really that hard and you can recycle old t-shirts, flannel pj's or sheets...whatever! : )

I'm going to use mainly Thirsties covers, but I'm also going to look into some wool ones, too.

I think you should add a few more newborn to your stash. The rule of thumb is 12 diapers per baby per day. So how many you get depends on how often you want to wash.

We used disposables for the first couple of weeks, and one reason that I didn't switch to cloth as soon as we came home from the hospital was that the small prefolds were still too big, and because I was new to it all I didn't have the skill to fold them down properly. So, I would get some NB sized prefolds and covers for that first stage.

Also, flats. You can't go wrong with a dozen birdseye flats (or more).
