I totally cheated on my pail - I just bought a trashcan with a flip lid and sewed a plain cotton bag to put in there as a liner. It's not waterproof, but it doesn't drip when I carry it to the washer. I have a second smaller trash can with lid in the bathroom/laundry room, and also sewed a liner for that - but today it occurred to me I could have just used a pillowcase or something. Poopy dipes go in that one, but it's about 2 feet from the washer, so I don't care that it's not waterproof either.
A friend of mine doesn't use a liner at all! I'm too lazy to wash my pail that often though. If you have to tote your diapers a ways to the laundry, you will want a waterproof liner/wetbag.

We just use a normal kitchen garbage can since it was cheaper than a diaper pail and then we use the Wahmies Pail Liner.
Also - your baby is due on my birthday Congrats! |
: We have two Swadlebees liners which have lasted over two years and counting...in fact they still look brand new...I may splurge for a third as we would have one in the wash, one drying and one in the pail. Two was tough.

Same here! I love the fabric patch on the Whamies liner, which I put a couple of drops of Tea Tree and Orange oils. We tried the Costco pail, too, but after the kiddos grew out of infant sizes, we had to empty the pail before laundry day since it filled up so fast. That's when we adopted a 13 gallon kitchen garbage can. Works wonders, and fits better in the small space, actually.

I went around and around trying to figure out what kind of pail and liner combo to get and "in the meantime" I found an old dry cleaning and just hung that on the back of the bathroom door...
...and that just became our system. At this point I have no plans to buy a pail, though my bathroom is right next door to my washer. I also wash dipes pretty frequently, every 1-2 days, so the bag doesn't build up much (and I only have 1 in dipes). But having said all that, the pail-less system works great for us!

I use a kitchen trash can I bought at WalMart that has a domed flip lid. I don't use a liner since I have a tough time getting odors out of synthetics. Any PUL cover I had would stink to high heaven no matter what, so I imagine if I used a PUL liner, my pail would get pretty stinky. I don't have so much of an issue with nylon, but haven't really found the need for a liner yet so I haven't tried a nylon one. The inside of my pail is smooth and flat, no areas for moisture to collect or anything, and I rinse all poopy dipes and wring them out before throwing them in. The inside of the pail gets wiped out with a disinfecting wipe each time I do laundry. I have two in dipes and wash every other day, and the pail doesn't really smell at all.

We also have the blue and white costco one. I bought it brand new at a consignment sale for $3.00! I have the planet wise wet bag for the liner I bought online. I tried without the wet bag and like a pp said, I also got tired of cleaning the bottom of the pail. I wash about every 2-3 days and on the third day the pail runs over. I usually just tossed it all in the wash when I get to that point though.

I use a 5 gallon bucket with a lid, though usually I leave the lid partially off to allow things to air out. Most poo gets flushed/rinsed before making it to the bucket. I use BG and wash every 2-3 days for one kiddo. A full bucket (and most of my dipes, about 12-14 per load) equals a medium wash load. I keep it in the laundry room and rinse it with very hot water each time I empty it into the wash. I hadn't considered that with 2 in diapers I may need a bigger pail. Yikes!
