How likely is it to pick up Chicken Pox from a recently vaxed baby.

Just over a week ago I watched a baby the two days just after she was vaxed, DS was sharing her snack. I know she got the varicella vax in that round of shots. About 5 days later DS had a runny nose for two days and was a bit more sleepy than usual and he had a few bumps on the inside of his thighs. I thought they were just a rash or pimples. Now he has a bunch of bumps all over. They aren't really red, more pink and I'm not seeing fluid in them but they are tiny and some are scabbing already. He has always had perfect skin so I am suspecting Chicken Pox. MIL and FIL saw him today and they think CP too. I can't see any other way of him getting them. DS 1 is in school but there have been no cases at his school and he doesn't have it. He also had the vax about 6 years ago. We haven't been out of the house much at all except to visit family. Is it really that easy to pick up from a vaxed child? I know in theory it is possible but I haven't actually heard of it happening.

When we had CP, it was b/c ds2 had been in contact w/a recently vax'd baby, likely. He had only been out with me 1 time without the older 2 and he was the first to get them by 3 weeks (the long end of the incubation period). 5days is earlier than the incubation period, though, I think it's 10-21 days.

I think the timeframe is probably too short there for it to be a case of vaccine transmission. Do you know if the baby ended up getting "poxy" from the shot? It seems that most cases of transmission to contacts with the CP shot happen from kids who actually catch CP themselves from the shot.

I didn't think about the incubation period. I'll have to try and think back over the past few weeks, it would be interesting to figure out where he got it. I thought of the baby first as he was sharing snacks with her. Feeding her and then himself so his fingers were in her mouth a bit so that was my first thought. But yes way too short for the incubation period. And as far as I know she hasn't gotten any pox. At least he is doing well and he'll have natural immunity now. He is past the contagious part now right? Too late for a pox party. I would love for my vaxed DS to get it anyway. I wonder if he would be contagious.
