How big is a baby when he/she is too big for a Moby wrap? I'm interested in getting one but I'm afraid because the fabric is stretchy the wrap won't last when the baby is bigger.

About 12-15 pounds for most people.
I found it still well worth it for the early days, used it constantly.
I found one used for $20 shipped.
They market it that way, and you COULD use it longer, but my back and shoulders would get wicked sore after 20-30 minutes when she started getting bigger. They also market it as appropriate for back carries, and frankly I don't think a stretchy wrap is good for back carries - not secure enough to be safe.

in my experience, most people can comfortably use a moby wrap until baby is between 15-20lbs. everyone's tolerance level is different though. i personally used a moby wrap when my DD was close to 25lbs and found it comfortable for short periods of time, but not supportive enough for longer then 30min or so.
if you like the idea of a stretchy wrap, look into the wrapsody stretch. it's a tighter knit and goes usually lasts much longer then the moby wrap. i have even used a wrapsody stretch for a back carry with a toddler and it was great!

Most people say around 15 pounds a stretchy wrap becomes uncomfortable because it pulls down on your shoulders with the weight of the baby. I had stopped using mine (in favor of a ring sling) when my DD was about 15 pounds, but I got it out again recently just to see what it was like (she's 19 pounds now), and it was pretty uncomfortable after about 15 minutes. I think I'll make a woven one in the same style, though, because I do like it.

I got a moby when babe was 3 weeks old, and he is now four months and I'm wearing him in a moby now. I second the idea of getting one used for little on craigslist or even for free from a friend or a mommygroup or something. I don't feel bothered by sagging now, and I'm guessing my guy weighs around 15 pounds. They are unparalleled in how cozy and forgiving they are. You'll get really confident at wrapping and it will be easy to transition to a woven wrap.

I would say between 15 and 20 lbs. Super comfy for the early months, big thumbs ups there
, but I'd never recommend it for a toddler.
Not all stretchy wraps are like this... for instance the Wrapsody stretchy wrap isn't nearly as stretchy as the Moby, and is very comfortable for wearing older children and it's secure enough for back carries. It's my fave wrap!
It's nice if you can try on different wraps to find the kind that really is perfect for you, but it's sometimes tough to get a chance to do that. Your local LLL meeting can sometimes be a resource for that if you don't have any other resources.
Getting them on ebay is a great idea - that's how I got my Moby in the first place, and it was my first wrap. It was a good way to start.
