Need a new machine

My machine is officially un-fixable (Sears doesn't make the replacement part anymore). So, I need to find a new one. I have about $150 or so to spend. Would my best bet to get a decent machine, which I plan on using mostly for diapers, to go look over the used machines in a sewing machine repair shop? Or are there any good machines for diaper making that I can buy new for about that price?

I just don't want to get something cheap that won't last, or work for sewing multiple layers of fabric. Input, ladies? I'm so excited to start sewing diapers, but I know I need to be patient to at least find a decent machine.

(I've checked my local craiglist, but there isn't much).

I'd say keep at the Craigslist...even post what you are looking for under the "wanted" section...my BFF just got a Janome for $50 on craigslist...I just bought a Walmart Project Runway machine for $125 which was a step up from my bottom rung Brother...it works okay for me but I don't intend to have this machine for more than a year or two. Good luck!

Does anyone know if the refurbished machines (on overstock.com ) are a worthwhile purchase?
