What items are left on your "To Do"/"To Buy" Lists?

I am finally making some progress toward how I want things to be when Isobel gets here. My mom and I got all the baby stuff organized, and the room is *mostly* set up, except for the items listed below. Today I hung up/put away a bunch of laundry that has been sitting (clean) in baskets for a week or two. Then I vacuumed the bedroom, and moved the night stand. Here's everything I want to finish doing before she arrives:

To Do:
  • find a pediatrician
  • print birth plan
  • install the car seat
  • finish packing hospital bags
  • hang valances in baby room
  • decorate baby room
  • ask DH to move our bed so we can sidecar the Pack N Play - done 02/22
  • mail Thank You cards for baby showers
  • clean bathrooms, kitchen, and living room
  • finish organizing guest room
  • reinstall blinds in kitchen and bedrooms
  • catch up on laundry
  • stock up on food!
  • finish taxes!!!

To Buy:
  • white crib (for later)
  • Medela breast milk storage bottle kit - done 02/21
  • more BPA free bottles - working on it 02/21
  • more cloth diapers in size Small
  • Moby or Maya wrap
  • ??? I know there is more, I just can't think of it.

Do you think I'm too ambitious with only 2 weeks left?

Install car seat
Wash bassinet sheet
Buy a pack of newborn diapers

That's it and we're ready!

~ a few minor things around the house (nothing that matters if it's done before baby, things like cleaning out the coat closet, organizing kitchen cabinets, etc., but i'd like to get them done!)

~ make wipe solution

~ pack hospital bag (wanted to wait until 38 weeks to do this!)

~ finish reading ina may's guide to childbirth (less than 50 pages left, will hopefully finish tonight)

~ read birthing from within

That's really it. I have the major stuff done, if baby arrived tonight I'd be okay with it! I'm working one more week though and then have another week off before my due date so if baby goes full term (which I expect her to) I will have plenty of time to get these last few things done.

*Get more prefolds
*Install carseats

I think that's it... I'll probably only get the seats installed, but that's OK. I should have enough dipes to make do for a little while.

Ooh, just remembered, I need to get some fabric to make a Moby-style wrap, but that's also one of those things that can wait.

I have to get my CDs I'm taking to the birth center, work on getting a paper I need for filing taxes, and...I think that's it!

We bought a twin bed to extend our family bed today! That was the last big thing to buy.. Have a few more things, none of them are really essential though.

to buy:

* More prefolds
* nursing pads
* mattress pad
* slippers to wear in hospital
* more nursing pajamas
* something to store clothes in...

to do:

* Set up Bedroom
* pack bags for me/DH and DD
* Practice using moby wrap
* go over labor stuff w/DH - I've been reading/preparing but he could certainly use some refreshers!
* strip the old diapers well

I have more crossed out now than I do left to take care of! Feels good.

Have to buy stool softeners, some electrolyte drink for labor, and a new hose for the birth tub.

Have to do: get our backseat door fixed so I can install car seat, or else I'm going to be stuck at home 24/7 with three kids. Finish my 2nd dd's scrapbook up to age 1. Clean the house a little more. Make more food to freeze.

To do:

Clean and organize living room hopefully get it into a state where it will be easier to keep clean. Put the co-sleeper and swing up in it.

Organize and set up downstairs playroom. If it doesn't happen then my parents will help with it when they come to visit.

Install car seat, not till Wednesday though at the earliest because my Dad is visiting Monday and Tuesday so we need the room in the car still.

Rehang a couple of doors, put up a shelf in the bedroom, getting my Dad to do these while he is here.

Move the boxes of books out of the nursery/finish setting it up (not really that important since we likely won't ever use the nursery till we turn it into a real bedroom around 15 months).

Tidy up DS' room again, tidy up our room again.

Clean the kitchen/try a few new toddler proofing items to see if they work.

Wash and put away the small diapers.

To buy:

Maybe a couple of pacifiers, I think that is it, we are basically all set at the moment, which is nice.

Honestly if none of our to do list gets done, except the installing of the car seat, it isn't a huge deal either, though the kitchen and living room need to be cleaned again, but with a 22 month old this is normal.

I can't believe it, but we're basically done. Well, we HAVE to be done with the buying since we're officially back to flat broke (though I would LOVE to buy about another 6-8 pocket diapers). So, all we have left is:

* find a pediatrician (not many choices since she'll have to be on medicaid - mainly just schedule an appointment once she's born)
* print birth plan
* install the car seat
* clean master bathroom and bedroom (probably will need to reclean everything else too, but they're clean right now)
* catch up on laundry

Don't assume you have 2 weeks! With my first baby I was fully expecting to go to 40 weeks or beyond, and ended up being 2 weeks early!

Here's my list:

To Do
install carseat
wash diapers and baby clothes
preregister at hospital
pack hospital bag
dig all of ds's baby gear out of storage
clean!

To Buy
package of disposable dipes for hospital

I need to get moving, I would like to have everything done by the time I'm full term, which is in one week!

Are you sure you have to? We were given a smallish package of huggies newborn care diapers (the kind with the navel cut out, enough for the hospital stay plus probably 1-2 days worth at home) with my hospital birth. We were also told to take anything in the room that wasn't attached- the baby towel, wipes, hand sanitizer, nipple cream, etc. You might check and save yourself several dollars if you haven't already!

Oh you're probably right, but I really hate pampers/huggies/etc. I think they smell really bad. I'm going to bring some seventh generation dipes, that's the kind my son uses when he's not in cloth. Thanks for the tip though!

I think they smell bad too! Especially after cloth-ing, I can really smell the difference. But I'm a total cheapskate and used the free ones anyway.

Hmmm....I don't think I have much left to do. Just ordered some cloth diapers, but dh will need to buy some disposables while I'm in the hospital if they don't get here in time. Dh will put in the car seat while I'm in the hospital, too. And I'll pack my bag right before we go, as I have every other time. I guess that's all that absolutely has to be done.

Oh, trust me, as much as I'd like to get everything done before she is here, I would have absolutely no problem with her coming any time now - as long as I get my birth plan printed out & finish packing! I have a feeling I won't be so lucky for her to come early, though.

Didn't mean to stress anyone out! Just thought we could all share some ideas in case we were forgetting anything.

I don't have much left...

~Sew up some more wipes

~Install car seat

~Print birth plan

~Have a baby!:
post #19 of 36
Oh, good question. I JUST got a great deal on some used cloth diapers, which was my biggest concern. I have some terry I want to sew into cloth wipes, and I need dh to vacuum the truck and clean the seats before I install the car seat, but that's not too important since we're having a homebirth and so we don't need to worry about having it in before we come home. :P

We do need to do taxes, and honestly, I've been working on retiling my bathroom so if I labor in there I don't have to look at ugly yellow linoleum. I've got most of it done, but I can only do two or three cut tiles before I need a break. It looks much better, esp after painting. I can birth in there!!!

Oh...and I want to take the kids to the bead shop here in town to pick out beads to add to the ones from the birthing bead exchange...a special one from each child, and I'm really excited about that!

Whooo! Got the master bedroom and bathroom basically clean last night. And got the carseat installed today. Yay!
