It truly depends on your price.
Cheapest:
Yamaha
Ibenez
Samick
You can pick these up at Guitar Centers for around $200. They're cheap and they work. You are not going to get great sound quality unless you are willing to spend more. They don't sound bad but they're not going to sound great.
Affordable:
Seagull
Mexican Made Martin Guitar Co.
Midgrade guitar made by a local luthier (guitar-maker)
These will have better sound quality, better sustain on tones. They will be more durable and they'll keep their tone for a longer lifetime. Between $600 and $1500.
Price isn't a concern:
USA made Martin
Avalon (Irish made and gorgeous!!!!!!)
This is all coming from my husband who is a guitar connoisseur. He bought me a low-grade local luthier guitar and it is good quality. He recommends going to a shop like Guitar Center with a good selection and asking for a starter guitar there. He says you can't beat Guitar Center's prices and that they frequently have sales. Just go to a shop, try a bunch and see what feels good in your arms and sounds good to you. I wouldn't be surprised if one spoke to you.
HTH and happy playing!
