Stash Me!

I have a 7 month old, and have been planning to 'upsize' and restash with some of the tax refund. So, I'd allocated about $300 to have my very chunky 25lb boy pretty well set through pl-ing.

But wait- that would have been too easy! Soo enter the additional pregnancy, which will space the two kids ohh.. somewhere between 13 and 15 months apart. Yes, laugh- I'm convinced I will not have sanity for a good 4 years.

Now, I'm allocating a larger budget to restash, but would like to add to my current small (and a few meds) to fill out the prefolds/covers I have, along with a good set of ME Sandy's smalls that were great for my little guy up until a few weeks ago. We've been squeaking by with pockets while waiting to restash, but I didn't count on a Giant Baby (my first didn't see 25lbs until about 3 years!) so soon, so what I do have is in very heavy rotation.

I like fitteds and covers, pockets, AIOs, wool- all the fun stuff. I even like prefolds and great covers! My husband, however, is diaper dysfunctional. I've found pockets under covers, pockets AS covers, fitteds alone... you name it, if it makes you scratch your head wondering what he was thinking, he's done it.

I'm not terribly fond of velcro in general (but if there's something you adore- that doesn't wear out in a flash- let me know!) and I can't decide whether to go with a one-size, or sized setup given the circumstances.

Help!

My chunky boy wore large fuzzi bunz until he potty trained. Double-stuffed with the regular microterry inserts, we never had any problems with leaking at night. This, of course, assumes your boy has already outgrown medium fuzzi bunz, which perhaps he hasn't?

At any rate, I love the pockets because I can pre-stuff them all and my husband doesn't find them any trickier than disposables. (Otherwise, trust me, he would be doing all sorts of bizarre things, too!)

I love fuzzi bunz sized diapers because they're so trim. My son was chunky and now my daughter in diapers is very trim-- either way they grow, the trim fit can be really nice for helping fit clothes properly. (If I'd had to size-up for diapers, I would have had to hem all my son's pants; with my daughter she'd be drowning around the waist!) Personally, I would just buy a handful of those in smalls and mediums, and maybe a number in larges if your son needs that big already.

I have recently fell in love with Pocket Change. They are a sized dipe. But they are a pocket and you don't have to take the insert out, which would be easy for DH. Also, Mommy's Touch is a one size dipe similar to PC. They both have a pocket opening in the front and back so the inset agitates out in the wash. Mommy's Touch even come with extender tabs if needed for LO.

hmmm...well I have had two in diapers and honestly what works the best are prefolds...my hubby was prefold illiterate until I got some pins, yes pins, then he was able to fold prefolds better than me! Apparently snappi's were intimidating LOL.

I'd get some OS covers from either Mommy's Touch or they have some really good priced ones from BunnyFeet Boutique on Hyenacart ($12/OS diaper for their stash builders).

If you want some easy diapers for your hubby I'd go with Thirsties pocket AIO's. Then it is an easy AIO for him, but you can add absorbancy for longer trips or night time The fit is generous on these too!

There are just too many options! So are you going to stick with the S Sandy's for the new one? b/c that would give you a lot more options for building the rest of the stash *hopefully* once your little one gets a bit more mobile they will slim down a bit and help you out that way as well

Thanks for all the ideas! Yes, we're going to stick with the Sandys and the prefolds for the new lo- I think I may be broken, but prefolds work SO well for me on chicken legged newborns and breastfed poo that they're a must have for that age in my home. (I know- other people have blowouts up the wazoo, but a bikini twist and a good cover are pretty bulletproof IME.)

I'm almost toying with leaving my small stash as is- it worked, after all, and getting maybe a couple more covers, new snappis, and more prefolds just to boost it a bit, and actually restashing in completely M and L dipes, so when they both are bigger I'll have a better rotation.

Ack- decisions!

You might like some one size diapers for the diaper bag especially, to make it easier to pack. I like a combination of sized and one-sized diapers so that I can choose a trimmer fit when necessary.
