Boiling questions

When boiling, do you wash first in a machine?
Does the boiling just help with getting rid of stale smells or stains?

I know about boiling white clothing but have never done diapers and don't know if there is any difference? They are in good shape but some are not holding liquid so much any more.

i boiled all my diapers, pfs, fitteds, inserts of all types, pockets, aios and covers. i washed them all first in the washer, yes and then boiled them all batch by batch in a large lobster pot for 10-15 mins each, changing the water every 2-3 batches. it took out all the smells, buildup and whatever was giving my baby a rash - they didnt visually look cleaner though. i am using the laundromat til our machines are installed, so i have some crap built up in them.

you boil the covers, too? Like a Thirsties or a BSWW?? or a BumGenius?
I would think boiling would hurt the waterproof properties...or melt them? Hmm...I didn't know this...

There are debates about whether you can boil your pocket dipes, covers, etc. - or things with snaps...you'll find people who had problems, and you'll find people who did it successfully!

Thanks!

So in boiling them you did not add anything to the water, like vinegar or anything, is that correct?

i didnt boil anything for more than 15 mins which i think is why nothing with snaps or pul was effected. i added nothing to the water.
