Had a healthy baby BOY earlier today - 12:19pm. 7lb 9oz 20 1/4 inches long. Transferred from a FSBC to Women's Hospital after 24+ hours at 5cm due to LOT position. It was 54 hours from water breaking and contractions starting to delivery. After trying lunges, positions in the birth tub, herbs, walking, and a variety of positions to get baby turned, it was recommended that we go to the hospital for pitocin. I was scared of pitocin but I had a great midwife from the birth center with me the whole time and she felt that with the pitocin and the fact that I had been at it for 48 hours at that point that an epidural would be good so that I could get some sleep and then we'd turn it off, check progress and see what to do from there. Well I got 2 hours of sleep and had gotten to 8cms. Epidural wearing off, I sent my mom and husband out for breakfast and while they were gone I felt some strong contractions with downward pressure coming on. It was fast though, within an hour or so and I asked to be checked again - complete! Waited another hour or so for the urge to push to come around. It came a while later and even though it felt like pushing took forever it was just 19 minutes and he was out and in my arms!
We were headed home but during our discharge they discovered that baby TTNB (transient tachypnea of the newborn) - they're pretty sure it will resolve itself within 24 hours but for now we're still at the hospital, rooming together, no monitoring or anything just observation every couple hours - it's already getting better too! We tried to nurse a little but he's just so tired he's not really interested. They don't give anything and don't recommend bottles or formula here so there's no concern about that - they said don't even worry about it until 24 hours have passed and if he still hasn't latched we'll consult the LC department of the hospital.
I'm feeling good now, just tired as the adrenaline wears off. Physically, no tears or any type of lacerations and my once high BP was at an all time low throughout labor - around 130/60 the whole time. Go figure!
Update:
Home from the hospital, all the issues resolved themselves overnight. Breastfeeding is going really well so far and here are a couple pictures - warning - the second has boob in it!
