Country Save Troubleshooting

I'm having trouble with my Country Save. I use it in my front-loader. As recommended for front-loaders, I use 1/2 scoop for regular laundry and half of that for diaper laundry (which is 1 tbsp). I'm having major stink in my BG's and PUL covers but I can't tell if I need to use more or less detergent, or if Country Save just isn't for us. I thought maybe it was too little detergent to actually get the diapers clean, so I tried 1/2 scoop but I don't think it helped. It doesn't seem to be strong enough for all our other laundry as well - sometimes my husband's workout clothes still smell coming out of the dryer.

I stripped less than a month ago and the stink started up pretty quickly. We don't have hard water. My laundry routine is: cold Rinse/Drain/Spin cycle with no detergent, then Heavy Duty hot wash/cold rinse with detergent plus an extra cold rinse.

I've tried Charlie's and Allens in the past. Allens I didn't think was getting our diapers as clean as I liked, and I was afraid my DS was getting the dreaded Charlie's rash when we used it. Looking back, it may have just been a regular diaper rash that was a coincidence with timing. If anyone else has any recommendations I'd appreciate it - something I can buy in a B&M store that works for HE and less expensive is better.

TIA for any replies

NAK

I use CS and find I have a very hard time getting smells out of synthetics with it. I use all cotton dipes and have no problems, but DH's flight suits, for example, get really stinky in the pits and I can only get them odorless if I do a cold soak first with some Bac-Out and use more CS than is recommended (I have a top loader and hard water...also have to add a softener). CS with cotton = great. Synthetics = sometimes a pain.

I use 3/4 of a scoop for all my laundry in a front loader.

You can always do an extra rinse if you need to, but try going up.

Even for diapers? I'm willing to give it a try.

I already do two (cold) rinses... maybe should do another entire hot/cold wash with no detergent instead of the second rinse?

I do this from time to time, works well

Alright I guess I'll try using more detergent and doing an extra hot wash with no detergent to rinse it really well. I guess I'll have to strip them all first, again <sigh>.

Thanks for the replies. I think I might try Charlie's again when I use up my CS, which will be a while.

I had same prob with my FL and Country Save. I tried using more and less (like 1/2 tsp) and lots of rinses, and my diapers were always stiff and the clothes didn't come very clean IMO.

As much as some people love this detergent, it wasn't for me. I went to Planet and it is much better for clothes. I found after trial and error, just using a full Planet scoop of baking soda for my diaper hot wash (in a cold wash, hot wash, extra rinse regime) and then every couple of washes doing a vinegar wash (not rinse) after (I use quick wash, a warm quick cycle on my FL) was the absolute best for my diapers (prefolds and pockets and inserts). They have never been so soft or nice smelling and I have tried every "green detergent out there.

Good luck!
