Which cloth diaper is the least voluminous?

I'm in the process of building up a cloth diaper stash for baby number 2. We used disposibles for number 1, so I am new at this.

One thing I have noticed on friends' babies who wear fitted diapers is that the diaper is so huge, you can barely get ants/pyjamas/babygros on, or you have to go up one size so the legs fit and then the rest of the clothing is too bit.

So, my question is: which brand of diaper do you find the least voluminous? I have heard that Kissaluvs and prefolds fit nice and snug on a newborn, so I have ordered some of both in newborn size. What about when they are no longer newborns? Fuzzibunz? Bumgenious pocket? Goodmama fitteds? I don't want to invest in diapers only to find out that I don't like them because they are too voluminous.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

What about the OBB Marathon?

I find fitted diapers the bulkiest (I only have Bamboozles though, so maybe there are other ones that are trimmer?).

Prefolds are the least voluminous, I think.
Pockets can be pretty slim too.

The clothes problem is the main drawback about cloth diapering (to me anyway). Yes, a lot of clothes (especially pants) are too tight... esp jeans or non-stretchy materials.

As for onesies/babygros, I have noticed some brands work better than others (I'm sure would be the same even without CD: some babies are longer/thinner, while others are shorter/chunkier ).
My dd wears a lot of stretchy (elasticated waist) pants or dress/tights combos.

a snappied prefold is less bulky than any fitted I've tried. The least bulky I've found is swaddlebees side snap pockets(mf instert is a bit more trim than the hemp). They fit my DD better than any other diaper I've found & are trim enough to fit under jeans. But they don't work for everyone, so I'd try 1 or 2 before you bought a whole stash.

my stash at this moment consists of tinytush OS fitteds, thirstees fab fitteds, fuzzi bunz OS ,baby kangas , a few BG 3.0's (cringe), unbleached chinese prefolds , thirstees covers, pull on fleece and wool soakers.
as for the very trimmest i say a prefolds and a pull on wool soaker.
also my baby kangas with one insert are almost as trim as that.
my bulkiest is tiny tush.
even with my bulkiest diaper i haven't had any problems with clothes fitting.

The trimmest solution I've found is a snappied prefold with a nylon pull-on cover like the Bummis Whisper Pant. Nylon covers are so thin that they scrunch down to almost nothing under clothing, and a snappied prefold is very trim if you're using the right size.

Any pocket diaper will be trim if it's lightly stuffed.

That said, keep in mind that the trimmer the diaper, the less absorbent it's going to be. We tried Swaddlebees for awhile, and they were very trim, but we had constant pee leaks from them. For me, it's much better to size up the clothes, or choose clothes that are looser and have elastic waists.

Some thinner babies don't have trouble with clothes fitting, even with the bulkiest dipes. My DD2 is like that. But if you get a chubby baby, like my DD1, it can be a real problem.

We have all pockets (blueberry, HH, swaddlebees, FBs) and have never really had an issue with clothes fitting. Well.. maybe I should say that we never have clothing issues caused by the diapers!!!

For trim, you'll want to go with a sized pocket diaper, like Fuzzi Bunz. They are really not much bulkier than disposables.

I've used fitteds with covers, AIOs, and prefolds with covers, and none compare to Fuzzi Bunz (sized-- their one-size diapers are a bit bulkier, as are most one-size diapers in general).

I never thought covers would add much bulk, but the difference between using a prefold and a wrap-style cover and a prefold and a pull on nylon pant is significant, IMO. Most of DS's clothes are stretchy (he doesn't have any jeans) but most of the time you can't tell he's not wearing a sposie. In fact, DH is in charge of the first morning change, and often I have to ask if he put a cloth or sposie dipe on DS as I can't tell just by looking. You could use a pull-on cover over a fitted as well to reduce the added bulk of the cover.

Thanks for your thoughts! I'm going to see how prefolds work for us during the newborn stage and then keep using them if they work well. Also sounds like I should get some pocket diapers. Maybe some Fuzzibunz and some Swaddlebees.

I thought the fitted with a cover was the bulkiest. I used thirsties & bummis covers. I did not try a pull on nylon pant, that would be trimmer than the covers I used. I have found that Huggabuns and Pocket Change sized pockets to be the trimmest for me. LO is only 12 lbs and those one size dipes are just so large and make his butt look so big. I use one trifolded hemp. I think the microfiber inserts are too large and don't have as much absorption as a hemp. I had thought I'd be switching to a one size dipe at this point to save money. I have bought a few different ones and not been pleased with the fit. But in looking at it, I hear most ppl don't go bigger than the med snap level on 1 sizers and I don't like the looks of the one size on him currently. I have mostly Huggabuns newborns and PC smalls now and we may jump to mediums in Pocket Change. That may last us most of our CD time especially since LO is only 12 lbs at 4 months. Now the next one may be my chunky monkey and throw everything off.

Honestly the trimmest system we've ever used were Swaddlebees pockets. To the point where my mom had held my son and asked when we switched back to sposies and I told her that we were still using cloth diapers and they were just that trim!

About even with trimmness *imo* are flats and then prefolds If folding isn't your forte you can tri-fold the prefolds/flats into a nice trim cover like Bumkins and they are really sleek

I love a big diaper bum!

But the trimmest I currently have in my stash are Dream-Eze AIO's. I've used swaddlebees pockets in the past, and they were even trimmer, but didn't hold up for my super-soakers.

I'd say the least bulky combo is a pinned flat and a thin cover such as Bummis Whisper Wraps.

Two thoughts,
1. Prefold with a pull on pant (Bummis Whisper pant or Dappi) are very slim. It looks fluffy until you put the clothes on then it flattens down very nicely.
2. If your friend was having trouble putting on the pants, the problem is not that the diaper is too big, but that the pants are too small. No seriously, just account for getting bigger clothes or bottoms. One piece outfits are great (don't like onesies with cloth) or overalls and dresses with leggings are great for girls.

I have only used AIO's and Pockets so I can only tell you my experience with those. Some of my pockets are trim, some aren't. My BB AIO's are trimmer than my BG AIO. My fave pocket is the OS RaR (not minkee) because it's absorbant, has double gussets so nothing leaks, and it's very trim. I prefer Thirsties hemp inserts for a trim dipe with lots of absorbancy. My next fave for a trim dipe is the Swaddlebee Econappi. It's our overnight dipe. My least fave based on trimness (is that a word? ) is the OS Tiny Tush. GL! CD's are addicting!

I have almost 5 kids and have cd'd em'...trimmest diaper I have ever seen/used and I've tried a million lol bumkins aio's, no joke... nothing else is as trim imo.

I have some kissaluvs for under a cover and they are pretty thin... with a cover, not as trim as an AIO but you have no leakage with the covers. I have been having leakage issues with the Swaddlebees and so far good luck with the DreamEze. Like the look of AIO's, but you can beat a fitted and cover for no leaks.

yes, they are quite trim. They look like they wouldn't be, but clothes go in easy over them

Baybee AIOs and fitteds are very trim an very functional. You'd have to find them used at this point though.

For us the trimmest are Bella Bottoms (WAHM) OS fitteds, and Gerber Organic Prefolds with a Birdseye flat folded inside and snappied. We use Dappi covers, Thirsties, and Proraps.

I read that Soft Bums are quite trim. I really really really want to get some!!
