Bedroom Furniture

Thread Starter
We just bought a queen mattress, and have a pretty small bedroom, but I'd like to buy some bedroom furniture. We don't have tons of money to spend, maybe under $2000.

I was planning on buying the Hemnes bed, 2 night tables, and 2 dressers from Ikea. I was wondering if they will hold up well, or if I should wait and buy something else?

I'm totally clueless about furniture and also need to buy new couches, and some kind of buffet or china cabinet. Which stores would you recommend buying from in Canada?

Ikea is hit and miss.

Our Ikea bedroom stuff has held up well.

I wouldn't buy couches from Ikea. I find them uncomfortable, and the people I know who have them say they did not hold up well at all.

We got our couches at the Brick.

I have the Tylosand sofa bed (in sand) from Ikea and I LOVE it!
Plus the built in storage under the cushions is FAB!

The Bjursta line from Ikea has a buffet that I like, but a long dresser could function in the same way.

I actually have the Hemnes bed and tall dressers. I like the bed. The dressers are ok. The only thing I dislike about the bed is that I have no underbed storage. None. The little bed drawers might fit under there, but I dunno.
My lil sis has the Malm bed and adores it. She is planning on getting the headboard shelf soon.

don't know if it's an option for you, but we bought our bedroom furniture used. We paid about 700 dollars for a really well made solid wood, bed (head and foot board,) two night stands, a dresser and chest of drawers. Even though I think that we may have overpaid, I can tell that the furniture was a good value. Just something to consider.

We have 2 hemnes twin beds, 2 dressers, 2 nightstands. I think we bought them in 2004 ? They've held up nicely. They do need a bit of tightening as some places have loosened a bit(where the pieces fit together) but I like them a lot!

Honestly, for a $2000 budget you should be able to get some really nice furniture if you do your research. Have you heard about High Point, NC and the viscinity which basically sells quality (the same stuff at nice furniture stores) for about 50-70% off of retail?

You can literally go around to nicer furniture stores, pick out what you like, make note of the manufacturers and then get bids/prices from the furniture places up in NC. I have friends that have done it, and they've gotten their furniture for 60% off the retail price...and that's including shipping!

I also know someone who lives in NC, and frequents their closeouts/one of a kind stores when she goes for weekend trips. She's furnished her home with such nice stuff for very little $$$.

Used furniture can be such an excellent value too! We also got our bedroom set as a floor model, which was an incredible deal!

There's two furniture outlet stores within driving distance of us. Those can be good places to go as well for deals.
