Kentucky Legislature Set to Add Fine for Violating Right to Breastfeed in Public

I haven't heard that this bill is having any trouble, but a phone call to your legislators with your support can never hurt. Kentucky House Bill 214, which is about to be voted on, would add the following penalty for violating the existing Kentucky pubic breastfeeding law:

("9)Any person who violates any provision of KRS 211.755 shall be fined five hundred dollars ($500) for the first offense and one thousand dollars ($1000) for each subsequent offense."

Information concerning this bill can be found at http://www.lrc.ky.gov/record/09rs/HB214.htm .

Current Kentucky public breastfeeding law can be found at http://www.lrc.ky.gov/krs/211-00/755.pdf and as you can see has just the wording of the North Carolina law. So, passing this enforcement provision in Kentucky will create perfect conditions to see if a court will interpret this language to allow trespass arrests.

I may just be having a legal geek attack but I think this is exciting.

That's great. So many breastfeeding laws don't have any teeth.
(Huh. Seeing breastfeeding and teeth in the same sentence is sort of scary.)

I'm also a KY resident, and damned glad to see it pass. It's in the Senate now.
