does such a product exist? if so how is it different than a regular cloth diaper? and (sorry for all the q's) where can I buy one on line? thanks!

Essentially is is just a cover to catch poops...
Pee will not stay in the diaper no matter what so you do not need absorbant layers.
Most cloth diapers suppliers have some.

Fyi

Target sells them too. Most muni pools here will not allow you in without a cheapo vinyl gerber cover over, plus the requisite swimsuit.

You can use just a cover - you just want to make sure it is snug around the legs & waist.

I like the ones from Target, but we have also used pocket diapers sans the insert and Stacinator So Simple covers.

What you need is something to hold the poop. No swim diaper, cloth or disposable is meant to hold pee because if it was absorbent it would become very heavy with water and be dangerous. Some pools might have rules about what they accept but we've never had problems at the one we go to. I know that the Happy Heiny's pockets are sold at the pools local to the manufacturer specifically for that purpose.

I started with disposable swim diapers, which made no sense to me because we were doing cloth diapers at home.

I stumbled upon a local store that sells wooden toys, imagination toys, cloth diapers etc. They sell bathing suits with built-in swim diapers. The bathing suits go in the wash after swimming. It works out pretty well.

I got all swim diapers or suits from TARGET or Babie's R Us. EVen though most pools have rules on what baby needs to wear I never had any problem with a regular cloth swim diaper.

I really like the Imse Vimse Swim Diaper. I know some people like to use covers, but this way I know we're using something separate from our normal cloth diapers and it fits more snug than the covers. Plus they come in cute prints too

A lot of times we just use a pocket diaper without the insert. It's a great way to get more use out of pockets that are just a bit too small with an insert, since they are a little roomier without one-it's just perfect.
