Blocking Lace

I am considering making myself a shawl. One yarn I am considering is Mini Mochi, which is 80% superwash merino and 20% nylon. Another is Crystal Palace Panda Silk, which is washable, wool/silk blend. Can these yarns be blocked well enough to open up the lace properly?

I have a lace blocker DH built me for Christmas the year before last. He made it from instructions on Knitpick. I'm not sure if the blocking method makes a difference, but whatever I end up knitting, I plan to block with this!

I think the answer is yes and yes, but the reviews on the mini mochi on ravelry have been somewhat mixed and i really don't like the feel of nylon next to my skin.
