Also worrisome is the disproportionate amount of time pediatricians must now spend to assure fearful parents that vaccination is the best choice for their child.
It's so worrisome that we are asking pediatricians to, you know, DO THEIR JOBS?!?!?!?

Parents of newborn infants can't take two years of study, as did the vaccine court, to sort out sound science from junk, innuendo and unsubstantiated allegation. As a result, rates of vaccine refusal have climbed to levels allowing clustered outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases such as measles, pertussis and meningitis, posing a threat to those unvaccinated because of medical contraindications, age and parental choice.
I don't think he gives parents enough credit; though I understand there is junk science out there on the web and elsewhere, some of us CAN get through it and cut out the junk-- maybe not 100%-- but we can look at the same material he does and make at least SOME valuable observations.

Second, there's been grossly insufficient investment in research on the safety of immunization. Together, these failures contributed to undermining of public confidence.
This part I actually see as a good point. Maybe for different reasons, but a good point nevertheless. More research into the safety of vaccines would not be wasted money-- and I suppose it is something Obama could spearhead.

I agree, I liked this point. To actually admit there is a deficiency and not just us *crazy* parents!

And this coming from someone who thinks antivaxers are causing "small outbreaks" of pertussis, apparently.

That article referred to meningitis as a disease. I don't put a lot of faith in that reporter's ability to tell me the truth.

I think it is better than a lot of articles. It isn't without fault but rather than saying how we already have studies and evidence to restore faith in vaccines (which is where I thought it was going) the general point of the article is saying that we need more research. More research would be great! Who knows how balanced, honest, or reliable that research might be but I like that the mainstream media is asking for it.
