Anybody CD in an apartment with no washer/dryer?

So I just found out my CD service that I was counting on won't be servicing my area anymore. We were depending on the service to CD. We haven't bought any diapers, because the service was going to provide everything. And I'm almost 36 weeks now, and freaking out. I don't think there's anyway we'll be able to CD, as we live in an apartment with no washer/dryer hookup, no laundry on the premise, and there's no way I'll be able to drag all of our weekly laundry, plus a weeks worth of diapers, to the laundromat to clean Has anyone else run into this dilemma? I'm sure I could make my own diapers, or buy enough second hand to build a small stash before baby is here, but how will we launder them? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I'd look for one of those portable washers you can hook up to a kitchen sink, and a drying rack, I think.

You can get washing machines that hook up to your sink. Some leases have clauses prohibiting them though. Our apartment didn't and so we used a sink hook up washer and a drying rack.

We have a very crappy washing machine...it takes about 3 hours to wash the diapers...because i have to run 3 different loads to get the diapers clean. So i have been washing them by hand in the bathtub. In the summer it rained here for 2 weeks soild and i hung clothes to dry in a bedroom with a circular fan running in the room. Clothes were dry in one day.
I like washing our prefolds by hand...it takes about 30 min to wash 10 prefolds and a few covers. I do this every other day.

Hi mama!

We are going to be in that position here next fall as well We switched our whole stash to prefolds and thirsties covers to make the washing easier and I'm planning on washing about every third day or so It can be done, I've done it before with flats...it just takes a bit more time and planning.

I wash at the laundromat & it's not that bad. Just get yourself a good wrap, ssc, or mt. When DD was tiny we used mostly pfs. Our pails are 5gal buckets w/ lids. I wash 1x a week & to do all of our reg laundry + diapers takes about 3 hrs. If you have any specific questions feel free to pm me

this site has a great deal on pf 2nds & covers

junipervt - how do you wash at the laudromat? (meaning cycles, etc..) and does it cost more? I may be in this situation after the little one arrives and am committed to cloth diapering but just want to make sure it'll work.

also, have you ever had anyone give you a hard time about washing diapers in a public laundry?

My mom washed my prefolds out in the bathtub in their apt and hung them over the shower bar to dry... but that was (ahem... cough cough) almost 30 years ago...
