Washing dipes for the first time

I have six diapers- 3 fuzzi bunz and 3 BG that I need to wash before my baby comes!! I have been putting it off because I'm nervous, I don't want to ruin them!

Is it okay to just do one hot wash and then hang them to dry or do I need to do a rinse as well? I wouldn't think I would need a rinse since there is nothing on them?

ALso, I am using Purex free and Clear, will that work? Thanks! How much detergent should I use? for only six diapers? A tablespoon? teaspoon?

Yay on the new diapers! Let the fun begin!

You can wash them all together, with inserts. Wash on warm or hot water, with about 1 Tablespoon detergent for six diapers. I would do an extra rinse since newborns can be so sensitive to detergent.

I would also dry them on medium heat rather than line drying them the first time. The dryer heat can really help reseal the lamination and keep them from leaking wetness.

Purex Free and Clear seems to work well for most people (some do seem to have leaks with it), but I think Allen's Naturally is what is the one detergent most pocket diaper manufacturers agree on. Good luck and enjoy!

the instructions that came with my fuzzi bunz said that pocket outers can go through a rinse and then be line dried. while inserts should be washed at least 2 times on hot and dried in between to make sure they are fully ready to absorb

I agree that I would do the extra rinse to make sure all the detergent is out of them! Enjoy the fluff and the baby!

thanks!

Okay, so I suppose it depends on the washer but do I just do a quick rinse first then once that is done do a regular small " cotton" wash on hot? Or should I do a "delicate" wash? I can program it to do an extra rinse but I wouldn't think that was needed until there was poop on the diapers.

i wish there was a way to just push start once and have it do a pre rinse and then a regular wash... maybe there is and I jut don't know what buttons to push!

wait a second.. I don't need to do a rinse BEFORE I wash them do I? I just do a regular wash on hot with an extra rinse, right?! See.. I am nervous!

I am hoping for an answer too as i need to do the same thing, but I am assuming the extra rise is AFTER the wash, to get all the soap out rather then the pre rinse.

since you're washing new diapers you don't have to rinse before. but once baby soils them you do start with a cold rinse to spin out urine and poo. then a wash cycle, and depending on detergent and extra rinse.

Don't worry, it's really hard to ruin them. My pocket diapers have been through years of abuse, washed with every detergent available practically, on hot and cold and everything in between, and dried in every imaginable fashion, including once being held out the window of a moving car and they are still just fine. So I wouldn't worry too much about it!

alright, i did it. I did a hot wash with a second rinse. Either something is wrong with my washer or I did something else wrong because the inserts were dripping, SOAKING wet. i had to wring them out a ton before putting them in the dryer.

I'm glad they still look good though and I didn't ruin them!
