How far over your EDD did you go for your 1st VBAC?

Hi all, I wondered how far after your EDD you went into labor on your first vbac?
I had a c-section 6 years ago and hoping for a VBAC this time. I am coming up on 41 weeks and midwife will only support me for a homebirth until I am 42 weeks. I'm not necessarily panic stricken yet but would hate to end up with a c-section at the hospital after all this preperation. UC is not an option for us.

This baby is at least 8lbs (although I am aware they can be off) and my last was 6lbs.. is this a worry? FYI, the original Csection was for a breech and labor was not attempted.

I had dd2 via c/s at 41w5d b/c she was footling breech and I too and planning for a hbac with baby #3 due in July.

I do not know the situation in your state as far as regulations for your MW, etc. but my baby #1 was induced at 42w according to the OB's rules. I was so steamed to find out at my 6w checkup that my OB was surprised that I did not end up with a c/s. For baby #2, I sought out a MW on purpose that would allow me to "go over" 42w and base her decisions on how baby and I were doing and not on some guideline. Baby #2 was born at 41w5d via c/s because of being footling breech but I am very happy with the care that I received from my MW and believed that the situation was the best it could have been. I am back with the same MW and am hoping for a hbac with baby #3.

If you are really concerned about being forced into an induction or a c/s for no good reason other than you are 42w, I would start seeking another provider or get ready for a fight. I can not stand the thought of a fight and that is why I sought out a MW that was not under the rules of an OB. She has a lot of experience and training, has done many breeches (except footling) and vbac's. She believes that hospitals, OBs and c/s have their time and place and will use them if she believes they are needed. She believes in birth though and that most women have a variation of normal and not the "normal" birth.

DS was born via C/s at 40+5 after induction and then failure to progress and an op baby. I just could't push him out.

DD was scheduled for a c/s but I convinced my OB to let me go a few days longer (it was drama, plenty of it). Got induced with pit and was supposed to have my waters broken at 40+3 but that didn't happen due to baby in a -3 station and the chance of cord prolapse was too high. Two days later, I got induced again with pit, waters were broken, babygirl was born about 45 minutes later. I was 40+5, she was 8lbs 3oz (DS was 8lbs 14oz). I never went into labor myself and the day of the induction and birth I was 6cm dilated, 80%effaced.

I went 12 days overdue with my VBAC baby. My 1st, which was a c-section, she was 4 days overdue. I finally went into labor after taking castor oil. I only took half a dose so it wasn't bad at all.

My VBA2C baby (after two c/s for footling breech) was born at 41w 3d after an ungodly amount of prodromal labor. She was also my largest by far--8lbs 1oz (IIRC), whereas her sisters were 6lbs 0.5oz & 5lb 9oz.

I had planned a UBAC, but went to the hospital after 32 hours in active labor & begged them for Pitocin & narcotics. Got both, & she was born after approx. 40 hours of labor. I don't want to scare you with that, though. Esther was posterior.

Just work on your baby positioning & you will be fine.

My first and second vbac were BITD when they induced on your due date to guarantee that the baby wasn't too big ('97 and '99) But my third vbac, a homebirth was two weeks overdue. Fourth and fifth were one week over, and sixth vbac was two weeks over.

My dd was scheduled c/s, my ds was vbac at 42w2d with midwives in the hospital. We were scheduled for induction at 41w5d but wanted to give him and my body as much time as possible to go into labor spontaneously. I was induced evening of 42w1d when I was already 2 cm and 80% effaced. DS was born 19 hrs later at 10lbs 10 oz. I had tearing (borderline 3rd degree) and some extra blood loss which they said wasn't unusual for large babies with induction. We're both doing great now 11 weeks later-- I'd choose vbac over repeat c/s even for a bigger later baby any day. We went in for non stress tests every other day the 42nd week, and since everything looked good they scheduled me a little later than they normally would. Also, no one predicted he'd be quite so big. These things worked in my favor for the late induction. But even though he grew bigger in the last 2 weeks, he was born vaginally with no crazy complications.

42w1d and that was only because I pushed prodromal labor into high gear by taking some castor oil. If you are absolutely forbidden to stay pregnant past 42weeks (though, remember, no one can force you to do anything), then it would be a good idea for you to start trying gentle, natural methods to get labor going so that they have a chance to start working. Sex is good, so are long walks. I've heard tell that eating a lot, I mean a llllloooootttt, of pineapple can get it going. Of course castor oil worked great for me, but I was showing a lot of signs of being ready to go already, and of course, no intervention is risk free. Chiropractic adjustment has helped a lot of women get labor started and there are accupuncture techniques to help it also. There are accupressure points on the body that you can stimulate it too, one is on the hand and another is down near the ankle. There are probably other things that aren't coming to mind right now, but remember, no natural method of induction will work as fast as the hospital's pharmies, of course they won't work as dangerously either. Baby #1 was breech and I never went into labor. Baby #2 made an appearance at 41+2 (labor started on 41+1). I was seriously starting to think about taking that castor oil if I went too much farther!!

I am in the same boat right now...I am three days away from my due date and my midwife told me today that I can only go past it by a week.
I have been doing the EPR for about a week but still have had no effacement and am only at 1cm.
I am just hoping I go soon, this is my third child. My first birth I went a week over but had him Vag. my second was breech with other complications so we had a c-section...this is my first V-back.

I was 41 weeks, 5 days for my VBAC. My OB told me he wouldn't let me go past 42 weeks, so we scheduled an induction for that day (41 weeks, 5 days), but when we got to the hospital, I was 4 cm (I don't remember how effaced I was), and was contracting pretty regularly, so they used a fraction of the pitocin they would use for an induction, and DS was born 10 hours later.

I went into labor and birthed with my VBAC baby 1 day before his EDD. However, he was determined to be 41+ weeks gestation since he was quite obviously postdates (no vernix or lanugo, cracked skin, long fingernails, etc.) My dates were spot on, though, and US confirmed them, so I dunno, I guess he just cooked fast!

I am 41 weeks and 3 days today, and planning a HBAC. My MW has said as long as baby and I are okay I can go as long as I want! Is it too late for you to find another MW to take you on??? Just asking b/c when this babe was breech my doula had another MW who was willing to do a breech HBAC if he/she stayed that way (luckily she/he has flipped!). I think some of us just bake our babies longer... hopefully you can find another MW! Btw, UC is not for me either so I totally understand that!

MY c-section baby was born at 40+4 after an induction-turned-c/section.

I went into labor with my VBAC baby at 40+3 and labor was about 10 hours long, pushed for about 10 minutes. Went very smoothly.
