:last week i decided i was not going to have my water broke on thurs like the midwife wanted, and sort of became okay with staying preg. - forever.
i drank an occasional cupof rrl tea and ate eggplant - but no castor oil or any thing. DH and I did try to have sex but that only left me with the feeling I wanted to hit him over the head with a frying pan, not go into labor.

dh worked late at his second job fri night - till 3 am. After i got dd to bed i slept well and got up only a few times.
At exactly 6am i was awoken by a contraction.....i useually get upto pee and the intense ones go away then. As i sat on the stool
i thought - wow these are intense and don't go away.
i called to dh and told him to run a bath - i figured i would soak and relax before going in to see if they were real.
they stayed 2 1/2 minutes apart and by the time he got the bath ran i told him to call the hospital.
of course it was yucky blowing snow and stuff, so we had my step dad just meet us there to get dd.
my midwife was not on call - so i was stuck with the Dr. on call.
Was dialated to 4, so, they kept me.
It was the hospital's policy to have an IV - so, they spent, not kidding - over 2 1/2 hours trying to get an IV in. I have always had trouble with IV's, they had my nurse, the charge nurse, the nurse supervisiing all the nurses in the entire hospital. Finally the air flight lift nurse was called and was able to get one in.
By this time I was dialated to 8 and had spent almost my entire labor in the bed being stabbed by needles. I did get 10 minutes on the birthing ball - but then I decided I needed an EPI since I couldn't leave the room this late in the game and was just pretty much irritated from being poked over and over and over again.
They gave me the epi, but it was a low dose one so I was still able to move my legs and such. THey thought he was going to be born at like any minute, but, the epi slowed things down so much that it allowed me to rest for like an hour before I started pushing.
I pushed for 20 minutes, and, had William at 1:11. This delighted my husband, because, DD was born in 28 minutes and he is all about "beating the record" if you will. Must be a guy thing.
William weighed 8 pounds 5 oz 20 inches which is HUGE for me (I am a tiny size person). DD was 5 pounds 6 oz and 19 1/2 inches, although she was early at 36 weeks and I had toxemia. Seriously, DD to this day is only 26 pounds at age 3. When they put William on my chest my first thought was " My god, this isn't my baby, this is a 2 month old!"
Overall, I was happy how the birth went Sure, there are things I can be picky about like the Dr. on call would only let you birth in the bed (the resident was a little more relaxed, apparently she didn't even call him in until I got the head over the pubic bone because she said "He will force me to give you an episotomy even if you don't need it.") So it was good that the resident was good about that. Apparently this Dr. is so controling he even makes his residents sit - whereas she explained to me, she likes to stand, but, when working on the shift with this Dr. she has no choice.
So, being in a rural area with a smaller hospital with no tubs and few persons educated in natural childbirth, I think I did the best I could and was happy with my outcome. We didn't circ, and although the hospital knew it, they kept bring it up. The resident was delighted as she was anti circ - so I was pretty happy she was on call since my midwife could not be (her son is critically ill right now).
William started nursing right away and has been since. He is an eater - that is for sure!
Lots of red hair, pink skin, and a chubby chubby baby! DD goes from being a great big sister, to, being totally rotten and poking his forhead with her fingernail, for example. She is 3 and this will be a huge adjustment for her. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Will try to post pics when I have time.
