Your favorite fabric for cloth wipes?

I've seen them made out of all sorts of things, I'm just wondering what your favorite is... flannel, sherpa, terry, fleece, velour, etc. What works just fabulously for you?

I used plain old washcloths the kind you can buy in a stack of 20 at the store. I was able to have a large amt on hand and frankly (sorry tmi) the terry loops really helped to clean a *messy* bottom. Plus they fluffed up after washing and were very soft. I just used a spray bottle with a little lavender or other EO in it. They were wonderful, beats buying wipes!

I've only ever used double layer flannel. They work well for us. Single layer flannel feel too thin, and, well, gushy, for me.

I just use those baby washcloths made of stretch terry. I like them because the one side is smooth for the delicate areas and the other side is loopy to get the messes off really well. Didn't even have to buy any since I received so many as gifts.

I like pretty substantial all-cotton terry, with one smooth side and one fairly rough looped side, about washcloth-size. I think that a too-smooth surface like flannel isn't as useful with really messy poops. I like a nice thick wipe, so I don't have to feel like I'm touching poop with my fingers, ya know, like when you can FEEL it through a too-thin wipe? That's why I hated disposable wipes-- my hands were too close to the mess all the time. I like all-cotton, so that they're nice and absorbent and get really clean when you wash them. I have a few that are mostly cotton with some polyester, and they seem to hold odors and stains more than the cotton.

Doubled flannel is definitely what I prefer. I also like to sew fleece to the backside of the wipe.

Velour is my absolute favorite! It stays SO soft and squishy and I think it has to feel the best against the baby's skin.

cotton-hemp blend fabric. Soft enough for the front, but rough enough for the backside. My wipes only have one layer, and they are thick enough that I don't feel the poop through the cloth. It usually only takes one or two wipes for me to clean a messy butt (and my baby can get a real messy butt! ). The same mess would take me 5 or 6 wipes. You can buy cotton hemp by the yard and just serge the edges.

As long as it is two ply I am not too picky.

2 ply flannel make up the body of my wipe stash - a huge chunk of pretty print wovens and bamboo, and I have a bunch in reclaimed 2 ply cotton jersey, a few in wovens backed in cotton velour and some with flannel and velour. It all depends what I am sewing up the day I need them -- I usually just keep my seconds for family cloth use. We use wipes cloth in the bathrooms and have large inventory. In the end the deliciously soft bamboo begins to feel just like all the rest of the fabrics.imo

: Nothing is cheaper than a washloth. And more practical. I have used all of the above materials and all but the terry smear the poop especially ebf. It si just nasty. 1 washcloth and Voila mess gone! and the two sides are the deal sealer. For just pee the other wipes are fine.

we used the three thousand and one receiving blankets we got as gifts and turned them into fabulous wipes. And I am still using receiving blankets now that I picked up from a second hand store to make handkerchiefs and mama pads as well! Its cheap, and soft!

I like my wipes with cotton velour and flannel from Quilters Nappies.

I made some with an old cotton sheet and terry from Joanne's. I like those too.

Hemp fleece (soft but textured enough to be 'grippy')

I made a bunch of flannel/terry wipes and I love them! The terry gets the bulk of the mess cleaned up, and the flannel finishes up. And the flannel prints fit my need for cuteness.
